Frugal Friday: Milani Soft and Sultry Eyeshadow Palette

Purchased by me

Milani Cosmetics has released two new eyeshadow palettes on the heels of their highly successful Bold Obsessions (reviewed here) and Most Loved Mattes palettes. Milani is one of the best drugstore brands on the market and continues to launch hit after hit. The new Pure Passions and Soft and Sultry eyeshadow palettes are two new hits. A few weeks ago I reviewed Pure Passion and today I have it’s cool-toned sister, Soft and Sultry.

If you’re weary of all the warm reds, oranges and golds that have been dominating the makeup market, you’ll love Soft and Sultry. It’s full of cool-toned creams, browns and taupes and they are lovely! This palette features 12 pure pigmented, velvety mattes paired with intense shimmery metallics for a sexy, smoldering look.

Like the Pure Passions palette, Milani has named the shades and divided them into quads, so three looks are already set up for you! I swatched the shadows according to the suggested quads:

Weekday

  • Bare It All –  matte beige
  • Tan-tation – matte peach nude
  • Foxy Lady – foil chocolate bronze
  • After Hours – matte deep taupe

Weekend

  • Diamonds & Pearls – shimmery icy white gold
  • Soft Touch – matte nude fawn
  • Come-Hither – foil chestnut with silver sparkle
  • Untamed – matte deep espresso

Funday

  • In The Buff – matte pale cream
  • Smokin’ Hot – matte taupe
  • Sweeter Than Chocolate – foil chocolate with gold sparkle
  • Naughty Night – matte jet black

I was a little disappointed when I swatched the shadows, however, they apply beautifully to the eyes and that’s what matters. I will admit some of matte shades are not as pigmented as I would like–I’m looking at you Soft Touch! However, it makes a wonderful transition shade. Standout shades for me are: Tan-tation, Foxy Lady is a gorgeous bronze, Diamonds & Pearls is a beautiful icy gold, Come-Hither is one of the prettiest taupes I’ve seen and the deeper matte shades are not patchy!

For this look, I started with Soft Touch as my transition shade in the crease and built it up with Smokin’ Hot, Foxy Lady on the outer corner, deepened that with Untamed. I then applied Diamonds & Pearls with a flat brush all over the lid and into the inner corner. I put In The Buff on my brow bone and then lined my upper lash line with Naughty Night. I smudged Smokin’ Hot under the lash line and deepened up the outer corner with Naughty Night. I finished the look with Milani Romantic Rose blush, a cool pink with plum undertones and Milani Color Statment Lip Liner in Natural with Amore Shine Lip Color in Enchanting, a nude pink.

Bottom Line: if you’re looking for a cool-toned palette the Milani Soft & Sultry palette provides a lot of options for looks. Some of the matte shades are not as pigmented as the Bold Obsessions or Pure Passion palettes but I really do like the mix of shades.

It retails for $20 but you can find it from Walmart for $14.97
