New Year, New You with Alpha Skin Care!

I’m starting the new year off with a new skincare brand I’m super excited to tell you about! Alpha Skin Care began as Alpha Hydrox in 1992 and was the first to bring alpha hydroxy acid products (AHAs) to market for over-the-counter use. I used Alpha Hydrox back in the day and that’s when I learned what AHA’s can do for your skin, especially for us over 40 gals.

AHAs are used in anti-aging skincare because they help brighten, reduce lines and wrinkles, plump, smooth and exfoliate skin. Sounds like a miracle ingredient doesn’t it? Well, it kind of is! As we age, dead skin cells are replaced with new skin cells more slowly and we produce less collagen. . AHAs help accelerate the process by gently lifting away dead skin cells so new, healthy skin can emerge and encourage the production of collagen to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. AHA products can be used daily to produce maximum and continuous benefits compared to harsh exfoliants like facial scrubs.

Alpha Hydrox changed their name to Alpha Skin Care in 2016 and extended the line to include other naturally powerful active ingredients like retinol, hyaluronic acid, peptides and hydroquinone. The new Alpha Skin Care line addresses all our anti-aging needs at an affordable price!

Speaking of anti-aging, Alpha Skin Care sent me five of their core anti-aging products and I’ve been trying them out with great success! There are four steps to the basic routine: Cleanse, Renew, Moisturize and Protect.

CLEANSE

1. Refreshing Face Wash $7.99– This multi-purpose, gentle cleanser uses Citric Alpha Hydroxy Acid to purify skin and balance its pH level. It doesn’t strip your skin or leave it feeling dry or tight.

RENEW

2. Essential Renewal Lotion 10% Glycolic AHA $16.99 – This lotion helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while also helping to support collagen production. It’s lightweight and feels silky on the skin and absorbs quickly. If you’re new to using AHAs, I suggest using this lotion every other day to start and then work up to every day. One thing to remember: ALWAYS use sunscreen with this lotion. AHAs make your skin more sensitive to the sun.

3. Dual Action Skin Lightener $10.99– I added this step for my brown spots from sun damage. It helps fade discoloration with 10% Glycolic Acid and 2% hydroquinone. I use this every day in the morning and at night. It’s a bit thicker than the Glycolic Lotion but still absorbs well. Though my brown spots are not gone, I can already see brighter skin in just a few days!

MOISTURIZE

4. Essential Facial Moisturizer $14.99- this is my nighttime moisturizer. It contains a combination of Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamins B, E and Aloe Vera to nourish skin and retain moisture. This leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated and I appreciate the pump jar!

PROTECT

Enhanced Facial Moisturizer 15 SPF $16.99- this moisturizer has SPF 15 in it for daytime. It also hydrates and smoothes with Vitamins and Green Tea. There are also light-diffusing ingredients to even skin tone. I love that there is no white cast from the SPF. Alpha also makes a sunscreen with 30 SPF.

Let’s not forget the body!

5. Renewal Body Lotion 12% Glycolic AHA $16.99– this body lotion glides on skin and helps exfoliate dry skin while supporting collagen production and helping with rough texture. I tend to get keratosis pilaris or KP, a skin condition that results in dry patches or tiny bumps on the skin. It only took a few days of using this body lotion and my skin feels soft and silky. Just make sure not to use this lotion immediately after shaving your legs.

The products that impress me most are the Dual Action Skin Lightener, the Essential Renewal Lotion and the Renewal Body Lotion. These are the same products where you will see improvement in days! After just a few days of using the entire routine, I’m amazed at how soft and hydrated my skin is and that is saying something since I tend to have dehydrated skin, especially in the winter.
