OLEHENRIKSEN Cold Plunge Pore Mask!

Inspired by the “cold plunge” part of a sauna cycle in Ole’s homeland of Scandinavia, the OLEHENRIKSEN Cold Plunge Pore Mask $36 deeply purifies and diminishes pores with an exhilarating chill.

There is a popular hot spring in Canada that most people from my area of the country have visited, including me. Ainsworth Hot Springs is a historic village on Kootenay Lake in British Columbia, Canada.  The Ktunaxa First Nations peoples embraced the nupika wu’u, or hot mineral waters, for their healing and rejuvenating powers and Ainsworth Hot Springs has been welcoming guests since the 1930s. There is a pool filled with the mineral water, but the best part is the 150 ft horseshoe cave you can explore that has an average water temperature of 104°-110°.

Why am I telling you about a hot spring in Canada? Because when I read that the OLEHENRIKSEN Cold Plunge Pore Mask was inspired by the cold plunge in a sauna I immediately thought of my cold plunge experience at Ainsworth Hot Springs. You see, after soaking in the mineral waters, the next step is to dunk in the 40º-50º cold plunge pool. WOW, you can really feel your pores closing right up after a dip in the cold water, in fact, it feels like little needles all over your skin.

Fortunately, the Cold Plunge Mask doesn’t do that, but this clay mask will detoxify pores and smooth skins texture. Formulated with the power of alpine willowherb and snow lotus, antioxidant-rich botanicals that have adapted to thrive in extreme cold, this treatment controls oil and reduces the look of pores–something we ALL want!

The pretty turquoise clay has a fluffy, airy formula that instantly cools on contact as it works. Add cool water and it morphs into a luxurious lather that sweeps away excess oil and impurities. AHA and BHA help to improve the skin’s texture and balance is restored with Green Fusion Complex™ and neem seed oil to replenish skin.

While the mask is most suitable to oily and combination skin, it also works with my dry skin to deeply cleanse and reduce the look of pores. Those with oily or combo skin will use this mask 2-3 times a week, I will probably use it once a week. It doesn’t burn, sting or irritate in any way. Between makeup, sweat and humidity, pores seem to clog easier in the summer making this mask perfect for a hot summer day, especially with the cooling effect.

Apply to cleansed skin, leave on for 15 minutes, then add cool water to create a lather and finally rinse to reveal a refreshed, purified glow! The mask was more difficult to remove than I anticipated. I tried twice with cold water and my hands pretty much getting nowhere, then I used my makeup eraser and that did the trick. I also didn’t get any real lather–maybe I used too much of the mask and therefore had too thick of a layer. I do think that my pores look a little more refined, though we know we can’t actually shrink pores. That said, I LOVE how my skin feels after the mask–super, super clean, fresh and invigorated. Kind of like that first burst of icy cool when you bite into a stick of wintergreen or spearmint gum.

Since the mask contains AHA & BHA’s, make sure to wear sunscreen after using it.

Aside from looking like a Smurfette, I love what this mask does for my skin!

The OLEHENRIKSEN Cold Plunge Pore Mask is available online at Sephora.com and  OLEHENRIKSEN.com and will be in Sephora stores this month.
