Revolution x The Emily Edit The Needs Face and Eye Palette

Popular YouTuber Emily Noel has collaborated with Makeup Revolution to create two palettes: The Emily Edit The Wants, an eyeshadow palette $20 and The Emily Edit The Needs, a full face palette $15. These were released in late August so I’m late in reviewing. I still haven’t been able to get my hands on the Wants palette–my Ulta store had to send them all back for some unknown reason. Anywho, I have for you today The Emily Edit The Needs.

Purchased by me

There are very few YouTubers I follow, and the list is getting shorter and shorter. So many are so fake, then there are the silly high school mean-girl fights some indulge in and then there are the ones who have absolutely no knowledge of the products they are reviewing. EmilyNoel83 is a true professional, knowledgeable of the beauty industry, is completely honest (hard to find), has great makeup skills and is easy to watch. You feel like you are talking with a friend and she is truly authentic. To be honest, I bought The Needs palette just to show my support for Emily Noel but after swatching, I’m quite impressed!

Emily hand-picked the shades from her favorite Makeup Revolution palettes and edited them down into The Needs. PLUS, these palettes are NOT limited edition, but permanent to the Makeup Revolution line and available at Ulta Beauty.

Emily says: “The Needs is like the greatest hits of the brand…I’ve not seen Revolution do anything like this before and I thought it was something that was really called for… they’ve created so many great palettes, so let’s make the greatest hits from them all. This is what this is, in full face style.”

The palette contains a bronzer, blush, highlighter, translucent setting powder and 6 eyeshadows.

  • Courage (medium brown, bronzer and contour shade, matte finish)
  • Joy (peachy pink blush, matte finish)
  • Gratitude (creamy highlight, satin finish)
  • Kindness (cream translucent powder, matte finish) Emily likes to use it as an under-eye powder
  • Honesty (blush peach, satin finish)
  • Passion (dark brown, with a red shimmer)
  • Peace (peachy nude, matte finish)
  • Faith (warm brown, matte finish)
  • Hope (fudge brown, matte finish)
  • Love (cream matte finish)

Upon first glance, the palette looks very warm, but cool beauties rejoice because you too can create a look with this palette. I also thought the shades might be boring, but they are really beautiful–full of depth and nicely curated. The palette can be used for everyday looks as well as amped up for more dramatic looks.

Emily did a great job of creating a face palette that is universally flattering. The matte bronzer Courage and beautiful matte peach blush Joy will look great on all skin tones. The mix of warm and cool shadows are equally flattering. I absolutely love Gratitude, the highlighter–it has no glitter or chunky shimmer to accentuate pores making it perfect for us over 40 gals.  The setting powder is a very nice and unexpected touch.

For this everyday look, I used Love on the lid and brow bone, it’s such a pretty brightening shade. I used Kindness as an undereye setting powder, Honesty (my fav) in the upper crease and Faith in the lower crease. Passion is a beautiful rich plum brown that I applied to the outer corner and to line. Peace is a fab shade for blending all the shades together. I applied Courage under my cheekbones, along the jaw line and along the hairline–it can also be used as an eyeshadow. Joy was used on the apples of the cheeks and Gratitude on the upper cheekbones. Burt’s Bees liquid lipstick in Tidal Taupe (reviewed here) is on my lips.

The packaging is typical drugstore with a few upgrades. The palette is plastic but it’s a pretty pink with rose gold lettering and Emily’s signature. It also includes a full-size mirror which is much appreciated.

Bottom Line: Is the Revolution x The Emily Edit The Needs Face and Eye Palette a must-have? I would say no. However, it does have beautiful, good performing shades and makes a great travel palette; all you need is foundation, mascara, and a lipstick and you’re good to go. And.. at a price of $15 you can’t beat it. In fact, since Makeup Revolution is not a prestige brand, you can use the Ulta Beauty $3.50 off coupon to bring the price down to $11.50!
