All Drugstore FOTD Part 2: Makeup

Purchased by me

Yesterday we talked about the best complexion products from the drugstore and today I’m going to concentrate on the makeup. Everything I’m using can be found at your local drug or mass-market store. There was a Maybelline BOGO 50% off at Walgreen’s so you will notice a lot of Maybelline. However, I wouldn’t be talking about any of these products if they didn’t work for me.

After my primer, concealer, foundation and powder it’s time for bronzer! This cute bronzer/blush duo from Flower Beauty in Glow Baby Glow in Beachy Keen ($11) is a blush/bronzer duo with a satin pinky-peach blush and a medium bronzer that works with my pale skin. Both applied smoothly and blended easily. I blended the bronzer along my hairline, under my cheekbones and along my jawline and popped the blush on the apples of my cheeks. Flower also has Flower Pot blushes ($10) that are beautiful.

On to the eyes starting with brows. Maybelline has launched a new brow product called Total Temptation Brow Definer ($7.99). Truth be told, I only bought this because I needed one more product for the BOGO price, but I actually like it and aside from NYX, I’ve found a brow product I liked at the drugstore. The pencil has a slanted tip that makes it easy to fill in, shape and draw in hairs. The spoolie has a new shape I’ve not seen before and I like it much better than the standard length ones. This spoolie is a short cone shape and is easy to brush through brows for a more natural look. I got the shade Deep Brown which is perfect to deepen my light brows and it has plenty of pigment. It’s soft and has more wax than some pencils so your brows really stay put throughout the day. A win!

The Maybelline City Mini Palettes ($9.99) come in 8 colors (please correct me if I’m wrong), some better than others. I originally wanted Chill Brunch Neutrals but had heard it wasn’t very pigmented so my next choice was the Shayla palette and that was sold out so I settled for Rooftop Bronzes and I’m glad I did even though these are my go-to colors and I was trying to go for something a little different. *singing–you can’t always get what you want.*

Rooftop Bronzes has 6 shades from a cream to a dark chocolate. The shadows are incredibly creamy, silky and well pigmented. The only shade I don’t care for is the pinky shade–it too glittery for me. As for all the others, they have the perfect amount of shine, blend beautifully and surprisingly have no fallout! I used the bronze shade in the crease, the milk chocolate shade on the outer V, the gold shade on the lid and the lightest shade on the brow bone and inner corner. The dark chocolate shade I used as liner on the upper lashes and halfway on the lower lashes. I’m super impressed with this palette! On the lower lash line, I used the Pixi Beauty Endless Silky Eye Pen in Cafe Gold ($12). If you don’t own any of these–try one for me pretty please? They are freakin’ awesome: creamy, smooth and come in gorgeous colors! To make my eyes brighter I ran the NYX Wonder Pencil ($4.49) in light, a flesh color on my lower waterline.

I finished off the eyes with CoverGirl Last Blast Volume ($8.99). All the Lash Blast mascaras are great, but I’ve been reaching for this one a lot. The large brush with tons of little bristles separates lashes well and builds volume. No clumping, flaking or smudging.

Before I get to the lip products, I like to use a setting spray to keep my makeup looking fresh and last all day. Hard Candy Long Wear Sheer Envy Setting Spray ($6.99) is a weightless setting spray that helps set your makeup for up to 12 hours of wear. It helps prevent your beauty products from melting, fading, or settling into fine lines. There are also mattifying formulas available or those who need to control shine and oiliness. It has a very fine mist that I love.

Finally on to the lips! The Rimmel Exaggerate Full Color Lip Liner Definers ($6.29) are so, so creamy and I love the tapered point–it makes applying super easy. For this look, I used the shade Innocent, a medium nude all over the lips, oh and this blends really well! Layered on top of that, is the new Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Hot Lacquer Lip Gloss ($7.99) in Charmer, a pinky beige. I also picked up the shade Unreal, a soft nude. Oooh gurrrrl, these are soft, super smooth, shiny and opaque. Plus they smell good. I’m not crazy about the doe foot applicator. It’s one of those that is hollow in the middle of the diamond shape and I think it pulls too much product out of the tube but I can live with it. These have great color payoff but are not goopy or sticky. There are 12 colors available including some fashion colors like Royal, a navy and Major a cobalt blue.

Thanks for reading my mini-series on drugstore makeup, I had such a good time writing these posts! I hope you’re able to find some drugstore gems that you love from the products I’ve talked about.

All the makeup in post #1 and #2 (including the makeup sponges) came up to about $130. I did have a $2 coupon and the Maybelline products were BOGO 50% off. All of this makeup will last you months and months. If you have a CVS and use your points you can save even more money!
