The newest Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Palette is Sultry $45. It is part of the Holiday Collection and as such is housed in a super glam burgundy glitter cardboard palette with gold glitter writing. Included with the 14 matte and metallic shades is a mirror and a double-ended brush. The cardboard palette is über luxe and glamorous, I just LOVE it! I like it much better than the velvety ABH palettes because they get dirty SO quickly and end up looking trashy. Sultry is $3 more than their past palettes–don’t know if this is a price increase or if it just this palette because it’s a Holiday release?

Cool toned palettes are hard to find and Sultry is mostly cool with a few warms added for good measure. A quick look tells us this is a very well thought out palette. You have a great base in Fresh, a matte black (Noir) that provides for lining or deepening the crease and two transition shades: Twig is cool and Birch is warm. All the shimmers are gorgeous, especially Rose Quartz and Cyborg. I may as well admit it… I wanted this palette for the stunning silver shimmer shade Cyborg. Period. Yes, I did what I advise you to never do and bought a palette for one shade. However, there is so much more to love, there isn’t a dud shade in the bunch! Cinder, actually Cinders, was my nickname at work for years so that shade is special to me. Ember has a khaki hue which is beautiful, Pearl is true to its name with a soft pink undertone, Dystopian and Noir are so, so smooth for mattes.

Here are all the shades:

  • Fresh (matte ivory pink)
  • Pearl (metallic pearl-white w/ a soft pink undertone)
  • Steampunk (metallic topaz bronze)
  • Rose Quartz (metallic soft peach w/ a pink shift)
  • Ember (metallic bronzed khaki)
  • Bloom (matte coral pink)
  • Birch (matte mid-tone yellow-taupe)
  • Cinder (metallic cool-tone beige taupe w/ gold flecks)
  • Twig (matte mid-tone taupe)
  • Teak (metallic golden brown)
  • Dystopian (matte dark ash-brown)
  • Cyborg (metallic silver w/ a violet undertone)
  • Slate (matte slate grey)
  • Noir (matte deep black)

The metallic shades are soft and really pack a punch. Tip: as with all the ABH palettes I own, the shadows are very pigmented so you’ll want to make sure you are tapping off your brush before applying to your eye. Also, make sure you are using a good glitter eyeshadow primer like NYX Glitter Primer for the metallic shades to minimize fallout. I find Sultry has less fallout than Norvina and with a good primer, you shouldn’t have a problem.  The metallic shades are bright and beautiful and most apply well with a dry brush, unlike the Norvina palette.

The matte shades are buttery and smooth with no patchiness. It’s hard to do mattes well and ABH has accomplished that will this palette: they blend effortlessly, have a smooth texture and have rich pigment.

  • A good mix of cool shades & matte and shimmer
  • Wonderful formula with great color payoff
  • Beautiful packaging with a nice brush
  • Perfect for smoky eye looks or subtle daytime

  • With the exception of a few shades, you may already have some of these shades
  • Typical fallout of ABH formula
  • If you don’t like cool toned shades, skip it

For this look, I used Birch in the crease and under the lower lash line. I placed Rose Quartz on the lid and Dystopian blended into the outer corner. Fresh is on the brow bone and Pearl on the inner corner. I also took a little of Bloom and place it just above the outside crease for some interest. This makes a pretty daytime look.

For a more nighttime look, I placed Slate in the crease and Cyborg on the lid. Cyborg is as beautiful as I anticipated, it’s a true silver that doesn’t have a blue base–so many silvers turn blue on me. I added Noir in the outer corner of the eye and I must say, this is the best matte I’ve ever used–no patchiness and it blended liked a dream. I placed the shimmery pearl on the brow bone.

Bottom Line: The Anastasia Beverly Hills Sultry Eyeshadow Palette is, in my opinion, the best they have released in a long time. It suits most skin tones, has a buttery soft texture and it’s easy to create simple or dramatic looks. Both newbies and seasoned makeup junkies can appreciate this spectacular palette–I can myself getting a LOT of use it!
