Aveeno Road To Healthy Skin Tour

As a beauty ambassador for Aveeno and Recyclebank, I’d like to announce a very event coming to your town this spring and summer.

For the 4th year, the “Road to Healthy Skin Tour” presented by AVEENO® and the Skin Cancer Foundation is driving back into town.  This month it’s all about protection – protecting  your skin and of course protecting our planet. The sun’s energy can be captured and used in a lot of positive ways, but as a former sun worshipper, I now know that the sun’s rays can have damaging and even dangerous effects on the skin. Participants receive a FREE full body skin cancer screening, the latest skin cancer information, and AVEENO® sunscreen samples along with free copies of Fitness magazine!

The schedule is listed on the Road to Healthy Skin Tour website. Make sure to check and see when they will be in your city and take advantage of this wonderful program. Growing up in southern California and of the ‘baby oil generation’, I’ve experienced some killer sunburns in my time. A few years ago I had to have surgery on my wrist for carpel tunnel. Before the surgery, I asked my doctor what the reddish wart on my thumb was and would he please remove it. He suggested they do a biopsy just to be safe. To my surprise and alarm, it was a basal cell carcinoma (pre-cancerous), it was removed and I have the scar to prove it. After that scare, I make sure to be screened every year and my dermatologist has found two more pre-cancerous spots on my legs that had to be burned away.

This is what the dermtologists on board will be screening for:

  • Actinic keratosis (AK) currently affects more than 10 million Americans. AK is the most common type of precancerous skin lesion and, if left untreated, can lead to a cancer known as squamous cell carcinoma.
  • Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer, affecting an estimated 2.8 million Americans annually.
  • Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) affects an estimated 700,000 Americans and claims 2,500 lives each year. Squamous cell carcinoma can sometimes metastasize (spread) quickly, so it is important to detect the cancer in its earliest stages.
  • Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer and has increased more rapidly than any other form of skin cancer during the past 10 years. With approximately 68,720 cases and 8,650 deaths occurring each year in the United States, melanoma has reached epidemic proportions. However, when diagnosed and removed early, melanoma is usually curable.

Please beauties, I BEG you, go get screened–it’s free, it’s fun and it just may save your life. Of course, the easiest way to protect yourself is to WEAR SUNSCREEN!! I’ve learned my lesson and wear sunscreen everyday–never less than 30 SPF in the winter and 50 SPF in the summer. AVEENO® is serious about sun care and proud to unveil two new collections, HYDROSPORT™ and NATURAL PROTECTION.

The AVEENO® HYDROSPORT™sun block collection is specially designed with waterproof technology that adheres directly to wet skin, to protect it from harmful UVA/UVB rays.  This groundbreaking collection is powered by the latest exclusive ACTIVE NATURALS® Lotus Wax Complex, which provides naturally-derived water repelling technology for long-lasting broad- spectrum, photo-stable coverage.

The AVEENO® NATURAL PROTECTION sun block line is uniquely formulated with 100% naturally-sourced MINERALBLOCK Technology, a natural alternative combining Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide (mineral Sunblock ingredients) to provide superior, long-lasting protection against the sun’s harmful UVA/UVB rays.
