If you watch TV at all, you’ve probably seen the commercials for bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream ($29), a revolutionary new foundation and the biggest launch for the brand this spring.

bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream is a gel cream that combines the best of a BB Cream, CC Cream, and a tinted moisturizer all in one! I like the sound of that. It is also supposed to increase moisture up to 215% within one week of use. I like that even better! It’s formulated without oil, silicone, parabens or fragrance but is chock full of skin loving ingredients like mineral water, marine botanicals, and hydrating humectants. It feels absolutely AMAZING on the skin–like you’ve put a few drops of water on you skin and it absorbed. That’s it. You CANNOT feel this on your skin….at ALL!

To be truthful, I wasn’t expecting much as I was disappointed in the Bare Skin Foundation that debuted last year (read review here). This, however is what I have always wanted in a foundation and didn’t even know it! Like I mentioned, it feels amazing, glides on smoothly, covers well, does not sink into lines and wrinkles and hydrates without that yucky greasy feel. I’ve been using the new Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel moisturizer (review coming soon) underneath and they work together wonderfully. The coverage is buildable so I use a little extra on my problem areas: red chin, cheeks and under my nose. Because of the unique formula, this foundation will NEVER look thick or cakey–quite the opposite, it looks fresh all day! This my beauties, makes bareMinerals Complexion Rescue perfect for over 40 women!!

Complexion Rescue is available in ten shades, I chose Suede which is a bit dark for me but I prefer darker to lighter in the winter. I’ve been using this for two weeks now and I LOVE it! I can definitely see this being my go-to foundation all year round. It’s super easy to apply–use fingers or the brush that is recommended. It blends extremely well and has a lovely cooling sensation when first applied. It doesn’t sit on top of the skin like some foundations, it absorbs quickly and easily just like a moisturizer–you can feel the water in it.. This is one of the features I really enjoy–so many foundations start off looking great and then I end up with breakout shine by mid-day.

The finish is described as dewy, but that is not the case with me. I admit I equate dewy to oily since that is what happens to my skin when I use a dewy foundation versus a satin finish. That’s another thing I love about this foundation–the finish. It is not greasy, not matte, but soft, smooth and definitely looks like a second skin. It is sheer enough to let my freckles show through, but if I want more coverage, I simply apply another layer and it WILL NOT look thick. Make no mistake though, you can’t get FULL coverage with this–if you need a lot of coverage for acne or scarring, look for something else. It literally feels like you have nothing on your skin–totally weightless. It applies evenly with no patchiness. Have I said how much I LOVE this foundation yet??? Bonus points: Broad Spectrum SPF of 30!

Now let’s talk about the brush bareMinerals recommends. The bareMinerals Smoothing Face Brush ($38) is a new dual-fiber brush is fabulous for applying foundation. The bristles are really soft and flexible allowing the gel to sheer out over the face. I place a dot of foundation on my forehead, nose, cheeks and chin and work from the center out with the brush. If I want more coverage over problem areas, I will add a bit more foundation on those spots. The brush is not totally necessary but I really, really love using it as it creates a soft focus look that I believe, takes the foundation from pretty to flawless.

Bottom Line: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream is a revolutionary foundation that creates a smooth, flawless look that lasts all day. It hydrates, brightens and looks like a second skin. You would never know I am wearing foundation. As important as what it does it what it DOESN’T do. It does not cling to dry areas, lines or wrinkles, it does not look thick or cakey, it does not emphasize pores. This is a wonderful foundation that really works for dry over 40 skin!

I recommend purchasing the brush but it is NOT necessary. I would like to see both packaged together–are you listening Leslie Blodgett?

  1. That’s quite an endorsement! I remembered that you didn’t like foundation from last year. I definitely will try a sample of this. Hoping it will provide enough coverage for me because the lightweightness sounds wonderful, and I love gels. It looks fabulous on you!

  2. You look gorgeous in this foundation!

  3. Can we talk about your lashes again? Please! Okay, maybe not but that brush looks like the BEST foundation brush. It may even take a backseat to my IT Cosmetics brush. Which, ya know…isn’t easy!

  4. You look amazing!! Your skin is glowing.

  5. I need to try this. I wanted to love their last foundation, but it just had no staying power on my oily skin. This sounds like a winner!

  6. I am dying to try this. I need to get into a Sephora and get samples. It sure looks fantastic on you!

  7. I’ve never heard of this foundation. It looks great on you Cindy! I also know what you mean about foundation clinging to fine lines and getting in crevices. I toss them if they do that.

  8. I tend to shy away from liquid foundation because of the dry patches, but this looks promising!

  9. I have been wanting to try this foundation.

  10. aside from the foundation, I have to compliment you for your gorgeous curls!

  11. So excited to try this!

  12. For me, it’s so important to find a foundation that looks like you aren’t wearing any makeup. It can really age you! I think that a good brush is a must. Never realized this until I actually bought one!

  13. I really want to try this foundation now. I’ve had my eye on it for a while. It looks great on you.

  14. awesome. I love bare minerals!!! Looks great 🙂
