Best of Drugstore Beauty 2018

2018 was a fabulous year for drugstore makeup–they’ve come a long way baby! Drugstore brands are stepping it up. Here are my drugstore makeup picks for 2018–they are products I have used and repurchased over and over again. In no particular order:

Burt’s Bees Liquid Lipsticks cost less than $10, are made with 100% natural ingredients and come in 12 flattering shades with a glossy finish. There is NO thick, sticky or drying feel of a typical liquid lipstick. I absolutely love the creamy, moisturizing feel and that unlike most liquid lipsticks, Burt’s Bees don’t dry out my lips! Read my full review here.

L’Oreal Color Riche Shine Lipsticks came on the scene early in 2018 and after testing them, I was, and continue to be totally smitten. These lovely lipsticks remind me of YSL Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks. They both have vivid color payoff and have that oil-in-stick texture. They are so creamy and moisturizing they feel more like a balm but they have rich opaque pigmentation, they are not sheer. Finally, a break from drying matte lipsticks! There are 16 shades available from pretty nudes to rights to deep red. These are only $10 each and they are often o sale for buy one get one half off so you can buy 2 for $15! I have repurchased the Maybelline Total Temptation Brow Definer time and time again and always have a backup. I was looking for a good drugstore brow pencil to replace my high-end Laura Mercier one, bought this on a whim and it’s become my HG. The pencil has a slanted tip that makes it easy to fill in, shape and draw in hairs. The spoolie has a new shape I’ve not seen before and I like it much better than the standard length ones. It’s a short cone shape and is easy to brush through brows for a more natural look. I got the shade Deep Brown which is perfect to deepen my light brows and it has plenty of pigment. It’s soft and has more wax than some pencils so your brows really stay put throughout the day.

The Milani Pure Passion Eyeshadow Palette is a mix of warm berry and rose gold mattes and shimmers. And oh, these shimmers! They are stunning!! The shadows are so, so nicely pigmented, blend well and the entire palette well thought out and coordinated. Though not the same, the palette does remind me of the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette in coloration. It a must-have in my opinion! Read my full review here.

Another Milani palette that knocked it out of the park in 2018 is the Bold Obsessions eyeshadow palette. If you like a mix of warm AND cool tones, this is the palette for you! Bold Obsessions has a mix of 12 matte, satin and shimmer shades arranged in three vertical columns each coordinated for a different look. This is a great addition to any collection! The Milani palettes are priced from $15-20 depending on where you purchase. An excellent value! Read my full review here. Read my full review here.

Covergirl LashBlast Flourish Mascara was a new addition to the LashBlast line in 2018 and I welcomed it with open arms! Flourish’s claim to fame it that it can be re-applied at the end of the day without clumping. I put it to the test, and it worked! This is ideal if you are going out after work or just to refresh your makeup. I’m impressed–never have I tried to apply mascara after a full day of wearing it and had it turn out so well! Removal is easy too. Read my full review and see before and after pics here.

Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Full Coverage Conceal & Contour has been compared to Tarte’s hero concealer Shape Tape. I have never tried Shape Tape but read a lot about it and I think MR is a good comparison. It’s lightweight and creamy and is the FIRST concealer that doesn’t crease under my old eyes. It also works great on the face providing full coverage without settling into pores. It comes in 24 shades and retails for……wait for it…..$6!

And finally, to add a little glow, whether you choose liquid or powder, Wet n’ Wild slayed in 2018. The Wet n’ Wild MegaGlo Hello Halo Liquid Highlighter is available in 7 shades from a cool white to a warm bronze. I tried Halo, Goodbye a pretty pale pink and a total dupe for Benefit’s High Beam Liquid Highlighter which is 4 times the price! These little lights deliver a multi-shimmer glow thanks to its shimmering pearl pigments. They have a big doe foot applicator that makes it easy-peasy to sweep on cheekbones. Retails for $6!!

If you prefer powder highlighters, try the MegaGlo Highlighting Powder for just $5! I’m amazed at how soft, smooth, blendable AND pigmented these are! There is no glitter and they are not chunky or chalky. You can use for a subtle glow or build them up for a “see from outer space” effect. These have been such a hit with consumers, WnW added 7 new shades! The embossed floral pattern is stunning, right?

In the Bath and Body category,  I found two new brands I can’t live without: Luxe by Mr. Bubble and Dionis both found at Ulta Beauty.

Luxe by Mr. Bubble is the original Mr. Bubble reimagined in bath and body products packaged for adults in retro-style and including the original scent plus two new scents. The line has an extensive array of bath and body products including bath melts, bath bombs, body butter, bubble bath, sugar scrubs, lip balm and more, all in charming scents and retro packaging. Prices range from $4-20 with most at about the $10 mark and they have fab gift sets too! Read my full review here.

Dionis hand makes their natural Goat Milk skincare products adhering to strict standards using quality ingredients. Their products are dermatologist tested, cruelty-free, paraben free and sulfate free and made in the USA. Dionis products are all natural and include favorites like sole soother, sugar scrub, body wash, lip balm, hand and body lotions and more. There are 16 fabulous scents from your typical gourmand scents to florals, citrus, and specialty blends plus unscented. The products are hydrating and nourishing, have a delicious selection of scents, are reasonably priced! 1. I am waiting for my revolution concealer to arrive. Can’t wait to try it out. Love your list of beauty products here!

  2. I actually like drug store makeup brands better than the luxury brands. They are cheaper and suit me better. My favorite is true match.
