BoxyCharm continues to be my favorite beauty sub box, I’m always happy with it.  The August 2019 BoxyCharm does not disappoint! It costs $21/month but the value is much, much higher. You get 5-6 beauty items each month that include nail care, skin care, makeup, haircare, fragrance and more with at least 4 of those items being full-sized. The box ships to the US and Canada. Each box has a theme with a card detailing the items inside. You can cancel at any time, but I doubt you’ll want to!

August 2019 Boxycharm Box

There is usually a theme for every box but this month I’m struggling to find it. The card detailing the contents is titled Totally BoxyCharm so I guess that’s the theme? Whatever, let’s look inside!

August 2019 boxycharm

The BECCA Hydra-Mist and Refresh Powder is something I’ve been curious about so I’m thrilled to receive it. It. Is. Magic! Not only does it set your makeup and blur pores but it has a cooling effect! It almost feels wet when you apply it and feels so soothing! It’s lightweight and translucent AND helps minimize the pores on my nose and chin. This powder is perfect for hot summer days! This is loose powder but there is a mesh barrier to keep the mess at bay and another lid to keep it cool. At a price of $39, it worth more than the entire cost of the box. BECCA Hydra-Mist and Refresh Powder is my new HG powder and I will be wearing it every day!

Wander Glow Ahead Illuminating Oil promises to provide a youthful glow to the skin. This pink, sparkly oil comes in a squeeze tube with dropper applicator making it easy to apply. It’s nice and lightweight and absorbs quickly and easily. As for the youthful glow claim, I didn’t notice any. I applied under my makeup and saw no glow or illumination. It does a decent job of hydrating but certainly nothing special. Overall, I’m underwhelmed. Value $42

Tarte Big Ego Mascara $23 is a nice addition to the box, especially since it’s such a new product. I love trying new mascaras and Tarte makes some of my favorites. This one is very black, vegan and does a great job of lengthening. I got no flaking or clumping and I like how light it feels on my lashes. It is a drier formula than other Tarte mascaras so if you prefer wet formulas you might want to skip this one.

Ace Beaute Glimmer Shadow Duo $25. These shadows have a texture very similar to the ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows. They are soft, super creamy and bouncy. Iced Latte is a gorgeous peachy bronze with silver sparkle and Cotton Candy is a beautiful pink with silver sparkle. I used a sticky base (NYC Glitter Glue) and patted on my lid with a small, flat brush. Using your fingers probably works best, but my nails get in the way. I didn’t get any fallout when applying using this method.

Both shadows have excellent pigmentation. I didn’t get any fallout during the day despite the shadows being very sparkly. When I removed my eye makeup that night, however, I had glitter all over my undereye area. Make sure you use a good eye makeup remover and that should prevent stray glitter. I believe there are different shades in the variations of the August box. I’m glad I got these shades are so pretty and wearable!

Steve Laurant Lip Liner $15. Steve Laurant is a new brand to me–the shade I received is Chic, a deep nude. The liner is creamy but may be too dark for me. I haven’t tried it yet, but as far as quality–it’s there.

Overall: I enjoyed this months BoxyCharm. My favorite item is the BECCA powder which is worth the entire box to me. I also like the shadows, lip liner and mascara. I’m not crazy about the Wander Illuminating Oil but 4 out of 5 ‘ain’t bad! The value of the box this month is $144–not bad for $21! Currently, there is NO waitlist, use my referral code!
