BoxyCharm Subscription Box August 2018!

The theme for the August BoxyCharm is Life Of The Party and is curated by YouTuber Laura Lee. This is my third BoxyCharm box and I have to say this one missed the mark for me. Personally, I don’t care for Laura Lee. I followed her YouTube channel for a while but to me, she is just too phony with her antics and she does NOT seem authentic to me at all. I will only use 3 of the 6 products in this months box which is disappointing. That said, I will definitely not cancel my subscription because it is still the best deal of best beauty sub boxes I’ve found. I like half the box so that’s not bad.

Okay, here is what’s in the August box:

Laura Lee Los Angeles Party Animal Eyeshadow Palette $19. This is soooo not me! The 6 pan palette is full of super bright shades: matte chartreuse (Issa Party), matte turquoise (Damage Control), shimmery cobalt blue (Karaoke), matte orange (Dranks), shimmery pink with pink glitter (Bottoms Up) and a deep shimmery purple (Hungover). While they are beautiful shades, I will never use them. I do sometimes use bright shades as eyeliners but I have plenty of them. The chartreuse was very sheer and patchy when I swatched them. Truthfully, to my eye this look likes something a teen might use. AND, the purple shade in my palette came broken.

House of Lashes False Lashes $9. These are premium handmade from human hair lashes and look very flirty and fun. I will definitely give these a try, I love big bold lashes and these seem to fit the bill. I like the varying lengths that make them look a little more natural. They are supposed to last for 15 wears and that alone makes this box worth it.

Adesse Sweet Almond Cuticle Oil $18. My cuticles desperately need this oil! It has Vitamin E, Shea, Sweet Almond and Jojoba Oils blended together to soften and moisturize your nails and cuticles. It smells heavenly and I will get a lot of use from this gem.

Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick $24. I got a matte lipstick in the shade Fair Play which is a pale lavender. Uh, maybe this looks good on Laura Lee but not on anyone else who doesn’t want to look like the undead. It will be great if I want to be a zombie for Halloween. Seriously, would this shade compliment any skin tone? Other boxes came with a more wearable shade.

Bang Beauty Chocolate Gel Eyeliner $22. I prefer gel pencil eyeliners but what has me disappointed about this one is the shade. When I think of Chocolate I think of deep brown–this is a soft taupe. I thought it was brow gel when I opened it and I suppose I could use it for that. This swatch was 3 swipes with my brush! Not impressed.

Wander Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks $13. Now, this is something I can use! You get 3 sets of gold undereye masks that promise to brighten, hydrate and reduce the appearance of dark circles. These are sold in a box of 6 for $25 so I’m glad I got 3 to try before I decide if I want to buy an entire box. The directions say to leave on for 10-15 minutes and I left them on for 20 minutes–oops! They were comfortable to wear and after halfway through, I could definitely feel my undereye area tightening and that’s a good thing! The formula has hyaluronic acid to hydrate and smooth wrinkles and lavender oil to cool and soothe the area. I do feel the mask did a great job of cooling, soothing, tightening, brightening and hydrating my under eyes and I think it softened my crows feet too. If there is excess serum when you remove the patches (there will be), you are supposed to massage into the skin.

Lastly, there are coupon codes for Laura Lee and Smashbox, 20% Smashbox and 25% off Laura Lee. Variations to the lashes are a BECCA Primer or tarte mascara.

The August BoxyCharm box has a value of $105 so it is worth the $21 I paid. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this box, it’s just not my style at all. I always wonder these types of sub boxes do with the surveys we fill out. I’ll hope for better next month. The items I will use have a value of $40 so I still came out ahead.
