BoxyCharm Subscription Box for October 2018!

I just love getting subscription boxes in the mail, it’s like Christmas once a month. I don’t even read the spoilers because I want to be totally surprised when I open that box. I’ve tried a lot of beauty sub boxes and the one I like best is BoxyCharm.  It costs $21/month but the value is much, much higher. You get 5-6 beauty items each month that include nail care, skin care, makeup, haircare, fragrance and more with at least 4 of those items being full-sized. The box ships to the US and Canada. Each box has a theme with a card detailing the items inside. You can cancel at any time, but I doubt you’ll want to!

October’s theme is Alter Ego. I really don’t have an alter ego but as a Sagittarius, there are many sides to me and I am an extrovert. That aside here are the goodies in the October box.

IT Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara (full size $24). I reviewed this back in 2016 when it first launched and it quickly became one of my favs. Superhero gives me length, volume, curl, AND separation. Most mascaras can deliver on one, maybe two of those criteria but this one does it all. Read my original review and see pics here.

Dermovia Lace A Peel Black Bamboo Charcoal Peel Off Mask (full size $30). This intense exfoliating mask with compression support is a two-step system. The peel paste is formulated with bamboo charcoal, aloe vera, and chamomile. You apply the paste to cleansed and dry skin and then pull the lace mask over your face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes until it’s dry, then peel off and rinse with warm water. Can’t wait to try this!

PÜR Midnight Masquerade Face Palette (full size $38). PÜR Cosmetics is a great brand and I hadn’t heard about this palette so I was excited to see this in my box. The palette has 4 face powders: two highlighters, one blush and one bronzer. There are also 6 eyeshadows and a slice of a mirror. The masquerade theme of the palette is apt as all the eyeshadows are vivid jewel tones you might find in intricate masks at a ball. Even the face powders are quite shimmery which I really don’t know if I’m a fan of.

  • Exposed is a bright shimmery silver
  • Sneak Peek is a matte brown
  • Showtime is a shimmery teal
  • Mask Off is a shimmery chartreuse
  • Disguise is a shimmery magenta
  • 12 AM is a shimmery charcoal–not quite black

Sneak Peek is the only matte in the entire palette. If there is going to be one matte, I would have preferred a lighter shade. The rest of the shades have a lovely shimmer–no glitter which I appreciate. I also like that 12 AM is a deep charcoal vs. a deep black, I find it more forgiving for older eyes. I admit, Mask Off, the chartreuse shade was offputting but the more I looked at it, the more I liked it. I think it would be stunning paired with gold or bronze. Showtime is a gorgeous teal, Disguise is a purple pink and a fav in the palette.

The face powders are a bit confusing to me. Twilight is a beautiful pale gold highighter, Hidden Secret is a vivid matte pinky coral blush, Enchantment is a shimmery copper and I’m not sure is it is supposed to be a highlighter or blush. Reveal is an odd shade for a blush–it’s a shimmery burgundy. I will use as an eyeshadow but not as a blush.

Overall this is a striking and fun palette to own. I will probably only use for special occasions and that’s fine with me.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (full size $20). The shade I received is Lolita, a matte browned rose. I already have a mini size of this so it’s nice to have the full size.  These highly pigmented, cruelty-free liquid lipsticks are long-lasting and provide full coverage in one swipe. I really need to get more shades, there are 40 available in the line!

Farmacy Beauty Green Clean (full size $20). So many of my beauty blogger friends have raved about Farmacy and I have never tried the brand so I’m excited this was in my box! Apparently, this cleansing balm is a cult favorite and melts away makeup yet is nourishing and hydrating to the skin. I love that you can use it for eye makeup too!

Bottom Line: I’m thrilled with the October BoxyCharm box, it may be the best one yet! It has a value of $132 and I paid $21! I loved seeing some of my favorite brands in my box and all full size! I will use every single item in the box, I couldn’t be happier! If you want to subscribe to BoxyCharm, use my link here while there is no waitlist! A box and/or subscription makes a great gift too!
