Chantecaille Promo Picture

Ever since I snorkeled at “Turtle Town” on Maui, I’ve been fascinated by the seemingly gentle creatures. It was pretty amazing floating in the ocean with these graceful animals, so when I saw the sea turtle palette by Chantecaille, I was instantly smitten. Pictures do not do this palette justice–it is simply stunning.

The Chantecaille Sea Turtle Palette ($79) is a limited edition color palette for spring. It is refillable; the eye shadows are easily removed if desired, a benefit, that for some, may make the price sting a little less. The palette consists of a base color, eye color, cheek color, and eye definer. There is a raises turtle embossed on each shade, and the turtle itself has a metallic overlay which disappears after the first use.

Base shade - a pale, sand beige

Eye shade- a medium brown taupe with satin sheen

Blush - a pinky peach coral

Eye Definer - a shimmery blackened teal

The base color is a pale, golden beige with slight shimmer–gorgeous. It will most likely replace every champagne shadow I own. The eye color is a warm medium brown with a soft satin pearl finish. The cheek color is a pink-peach coral with a gold sheen–very flattering without being over the top like NARS Orgasm.  The eye definer shade is a blackened teal with a beautiful luster; the star of the ocean–er, I mean palette. All four shades are buttery soft and nicely pigmented with no fallout or texture issues. The blendability is amazing!

This palette does not say “Bam, I’m here!”, but rather whispers “You’ll know when I arrive, heads will turn.” It is ideal for the over 40 woman who wants a classy, elegant and polished look. That’s not to say you couldn’t achieve a lovely smoky eye, it’s just that these shadows have more of a luminosity rather than shimmer–very subtle and refined. I should mention too, that all the eye colors can be used wet as well.

I used the pale beige/gold shadow as an all over base up to the brow bone, the medium brown on the lid and the teal in the crease and as a liner.

My Chantecaille Look

With the purchase of this refillable palette, you are helping Chantecaille continue their mission to support marine wildlife–5% of the proceeds go to Dr. Karen Eckert of the WIDECAST Organization, focused on saving sea turtles in North, South and Central America and the Caribbean.

Packaging: a heavy mirrored refillable compact–very classy

Quality:excellent as we have come to expect from Chantecaille–the shadows are soft, easily blended with good pigmentation and last well

Value: at $79, this is a pricey palette, there’s no way around that. With 5% of the proceeds going to the charitable organization WIDECAST, and the fact that the palette is refillable, it may it more tolerable to some. In addition, the palette is actually cheaper by the ounce than MAC, Urban Decay, NARS and Make Up For Ever.

Best For: any over 40 beauty that likes a sophisticated, polished and chic look.

Overall: I received a little bonus from work and splurged on the LE Chantecaille Sea Turtle Palette. I don’t normally spend this much on a single palette, but I adore it and can see getting a lot of use from it. Everything in the palette is of the utmost quality and easy to work with. The blackened teal is a unique and absolutely gorgeous color. This palette makes me feel like a sophisticated and elegant look– almost like a lady who lunches. If you’re in the mood to splurge, please consider the Chantecaille Sea Turtle Palette, I don’t think you’ll be sorry!

The Chantecaille is available at Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. If you can’t find it in the store, it is still available at

  1. THIS IS GORGEOUS! I love that part of the proceeds go to a good cause as well. My only hesitation is that I wouldn’t want to ruin the cute little turtles by using it! 😀

  2. You are definitely the turtle lady! Lovely colors and design + turtles = irresistible.

The Hawaiian word for the endangered green sea turtle is “honu”. I love watching them feed on seaweed, so close to the shore!

    • Oh Soos, that would be so awesome to see the turtles feeding! I want to get back to Hawaii so bad!!!

This is almost too beautiful to use, Cindy! I felt like that about their Tiger palette, too. Maybe there’s a method in Chantecaille’s madness!!??

  4. I’m the person that buys these and doesn’t use them because I don’t want to mess up the gorgeousness. I’m glad you braved it and wore this beautiful palette.

  5. I saw this in Redbook and can’t stop thinking about purchasing it…but since the palette is refillable I can just pop the turtles out and save them! I’m a tad obsessed with sea turtles =] Thanks for reviewing this!
