Unfortunately, as we age, our lips become thin, dry and wrinkled causing us to look old and tired. The main cause of this is the breakdown of collagen; due to a number of factors including sun exposure, pollution, and the natural aging process. Injections are expensive, painful and I do NOT want a trout pout! City Lips has been called the best non-surgical lip plumping solution by ABC news and Fox’s Good-day LA. Since my upper lip is as thin as an empty apology I was excited to try City Lips.

City Lips gives you both an immediate AND a long-term solution for thin lips. The formula offers deep hydration for instant plumping and smooths out lip lines and wrinkles.

These are the magic ingredients:

Hyaluronic Acid Spheres give wrinkles a plumped look from the inside out

Oligopeptide Technology fuels the skin’s collagen synthesis and dermal matrix for a more youthful appearance

Jojoba Oil forms a barrier that effectively locks moisture in and keeps lips looking soft and smooth

Ylang Ylang Flower Oil comforts and soothes dry, chapped lips while protecting them from the elements

City Lips is formulated without Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, Mineral Oil, Gluten or Nuts. It is manufactured in the US with no animal testing.

The brand suggests using the clear City Lips $35 on clean, dry lips then waiting 2-3 minutes to apply lip color. They also say with continued use, lips will see improved results. I can feel a slight buzzing which actually is quite pleasant, but no stinging or burning AT ALL and it’s only for a couple of minutes. I’ve tried other lip plumpers and they are just too strong and really irritate my lips–I’m looking at you Soap & Glory!

I have to say, City Lips is very comfortable to wear and I’m impressed at the shade range–there are 20 in total.

New to the line are 10 opaque shades. I got to try Pink Nude, one of the opaque shades, it’s cool-toned pink that pulls very nude on me, not great for me but for someone with cool-toned skin, perfecto! I also tried Sun Diego, one of the gorgeous shimmer shades: a pretty warm-toned peachy pink with gold shimmer–I die!

And let’s not forget the mattes. Beauties, you know how I feel about matte lipsticks–we don’t get along. Most of them are drying, show all my lip lines plus they are not comfortable on the lips. Take all that and throw it out the window because City Lips Matte is none of that and all the good stuff! In addition to all the ingredients in the regular City Lips Gloss, the matte version also includes a Multi-Functional Elastomer System that allows for an emollient, silky smooth glide that dries down to a lightweight powdery velvet matte finish. You can feel the nourishing oils in the formula and miracle of miracles it does NOT bleed or emphasize my upper lip lines and is pleasant to wear without feeling drying. It is also long-wearing like a matte lipstick should be.

There are 10 matte shades– I immediately fell for Rosy Mauve, a nearly hot pink with some mauve thrown in for a sophisticated look. Pink Taupe is exactly as named and is perfect for an everyday look or with a smoky eye. Who knew I could actually enjoy matte lipstick? City Lips Matte has been a delightful surprise!

This is Rosy Mauve and yes, you can see the lines on my lips but it didn’t bleed into my lines above my lip and my lips don’t look dry.

Before I stop raving about City Lips, I have to touch on the unique packaging. Each gloss is housed in a sturdy rectangular cardboard navy box with a gold cityscapes design. The packaging is beautiful and I’d like to do something really creative with the boxes so if you have any idea let me know!

Bottom Line: I’m so excited I got to try City Lips, I like the little bit of plump I get and that I finally found a matte lipstick I can wear without feeling old and self-conscious!
