2016 is shaping up to be a banner year for drugstore makeup. Several brands have launched their Spring 2016 collections that rival more expensive brands. If you have been reading Prime Beauty for any length of time, you know of my major addiction to eye products and especially mascara. I have been impressed with the Covergirl Lash Blast line so I simply had to try the new Covergirl Plumpify BlastPRO Mascara. It promises  “extreme plump and lift with 50x volume”.

Plumpify has a ginormous, crazy shaped brush. I mean this thing is HUGE! It’s spiral rounded bristles promise to lift and plump lashes but I find it extremely unwieldy–it’s just too big and bulky making it difficult to work with in my opinion. I find it hard to get to the tiny lashes on the inner corner of my eye and lower lashes–maybe that’s what the fluffy top of the wand is for? If so, it doesn’t work for me.

The formula is fine, not too wet or dry. There is no flaking or smudging so that’s good. I get good length but not much volume which I am always looking for. I have fairly long, dark lashes to begin with so I strive to add thickness and volume.

Removal is not as easy as it should be. I use Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover and had to use several soaked cotton pads to get all the mascara off. I also find Plumpify doesn’t leave my lashes as conditioned as I like.

The Covergirl Lash Blast line has worked wonderfully for me, Clump Crusher has received accolades from me as well as many other bloggers. Plumpify, however, is a disappointment. It just does not deliver the “plump” it promises and the brush is hard to use.

Bottom Line: While I wouldn’t say Plumpify is bad, it’s not great either. I give it a grade of C+. With so many fabulous drugstore mascaras available (including other Covergirl choices) I would skip this one.

I’ll let you be the judge since you’ve tried so many and have such great lashes to begin with. From your photo, I’d say it was a success because your lashes look huge!

  2. I’m glad to see this brush since I don’t think it would work on me either. It does look good on you but I know that we each have expectations of what we are looking for in a mascara.

  3. I actually love how your lashes look. I like that there’s no flaking or clumping. That’s a plus. It sucks the brush is difficult to use.

  4. This goes to show how much difference there are between people– this is one of my new favorite mascaras!

  5. This is actually one of my favorite brush types, and I loved this mascara!

  6. Your lashes look fantastic! I want to try this because I’m intrigued by that brush. More than plump or volume, I would settle for length since my lashes are just fuzz.

  7. Aw, bummer. I usually quite like CG mascaras.

  8. I can’t say that I had a dramatic difference, but my lashes are wonky and hate being pretty, lol.

  9. I usually like Cover Girl mascaras, this may be worth a tumble. 🙂

  10. Ooh – I need to try this one out… I have such small lashes that brushes like these do really well.

I read mix reviews of this one. I wonder how it’ll amplify my boring lashes

  12. The name is enticing, but it’s good to know that that’s as far as it goes! I have lots of other Mascaras on my to-try list. Thanks for the honest review!

  13. I haven’t tried this yet, but I have liked the other Covergirl mascaras that I’ve used. I think they make some really great mascaras.
