Frugal Friday – Revlon CustomEyes Eye Shadow Palettes

I purchased these from my local RiteAid because of the cute embossed design on the eye shadows. I love good packaging, I’m kind of a packaging Ho. There. I said it. It did help that they were on BOGOHO (buy one, get one half off) but I probably would have bought them anyway. The embossed pattern reminds me a big cozy sweater–the kind you would wear relaxing around the house on a cold wintersspring day with a cup of coffee in your hand, your Ugg slippers, sitting by a fire reading a great book. And then you wake up. I digress, on to the review.

#10 Sweet Innocence is the first one I tried. I couldn’t resist the name because it describes me so fully—-NOT! It has a mix of cool and neutral mostly matte shades. According to the back of the palette, the pink shade is #1. This matte shade doesn’t show up on me at all–not on my lids or under the brow bone, it’s chalky and pretty much worthless. Shade #2,  is supposed to be the crease shade–it is a pretty neutral matte taupe/plum. This shade wasn’t very pigmented either and was hard to blend.  The #3 shade is a matte ivory shade that works really well as a highlight shade. This one is more pigmented and blends better than the other shades. #4  is a satin peach, that I used on the lid since the pink didn’t work–it is very pale but works well with the other shades. #5 is the liner shade. This deep brown/grey taupe may be the most pigmented of all the shades in the palette. I used it wet and was pleased with the results. Overall this is a disappointing palette even, for $8.99. I would rather pay a little more and get some nicely pigmented smooth matte shades. Smashbox comes to mind–they have some great matte shades.

Not very pigmented

I don’t how well this shows up in my lame-o pictures, but the Sweet Innocence palette does make for a nice soft, natural eye–although I think you can do better 🙂

#20 Naturally Glamorous–now this palette is a whole ‘nuther story. These shades are rich, shimmery, metallic and pigmented. Whereas Sweet Innocent is a neutral/cool palette, Naturally Glamorous is decidedly warm. Shadow #1 is a very pretty shimmery–I’m gonna say camel, #2  metallic copper #3 a pretty shimmery ivory (as opposed to the matte ivory of Sweet Innocence), #4 shimmery bronze and #5 a fairly matte deep brown. All these shades went on smoother and blended better than the other palette. I quite like the shades in this palette, but still prefer a little better quality–for drugstore it’s good though.

Revlon Naturally Glamorous Palette

Revlon has total of six palettes available, they retail for $8.99 each. Like I mentioned, I bought two on a buy one get one half off sale. If you’re in a hurry or looking for an inexpensive eye shadow palette with lots of color choices, these would be a good choice. I perfer to spend a little more and get better quality. Pink Sith has pictures and reviews of these and two more Revlon CustomEyes Shadow Palettes.

  1. I haven’t bought Revlon in years and this sort of proves why.

  2. “I’m kind of a packaging Ho.” You are TOO funny!

Instead of these, I bought 2 of the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plus Eye Shadow Quads. I like the pigmentation, the colors. They aren’t as glittery as they look. The pans are not very big, but I find I rarely use up any but the most basic colors.

  3. Too bad. I really used to like Revlon eyeshadow (single pan). I wonder if the line in general has gone downhill or if it’s just these palettes that aren’t so good.
What mascara do you use? Your lashes are lovely!

  4. Thanks for the review. I bought some L’Oreal shades to a similar disappointment. Besides Smashbox, what eye shadows do you recommend?

    • Oh my goodness Traci, that’s like asking to pick my favorite child! Okay let’s see….MAC has an awesome selection, Tarte, Stila, Senna Cosmetics (I reviewed a few in the glamour kit), Urban Decay. Bare Escentuals also has a vast selection but only if you like loose shadows. High end–Dior, Chanel, NARS, Chantecaille, BECCA.
Drugstore brands that have good quality are NYX, Ulta brand, Physicians Formula shimmer strips, L’Oreal. And I’m sure there are many I not thinking of at the moment!

      • This may shock you but, I have worn some ULTA shades and my friend who is a rep in the beauty business was convinced they were MAC. (I had to show her the product before should would believe me.) Sometimes you just never know what brand it may be.

        • Not at all Holly. I’m and equal opportunity makeup addict–drugstore, dept. store–whatevah!

  5. I love that second palette on you.

  6. Still hoping to hear about your mascara.

    • Hi Paula,
It’s L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes–review coming soon, but I’ll tell you this–I really like it!

  7. I have all these and these are my favorite ones!
