We talked about dietary supplements here, that us over 40 women need, but did you know there are so-called beauty supplements? While Biotin is not considered a beauty supplement per se, it can help you have heatlty hair, skin and nails. Read on!

Biotin is an essential nutrient with a big job to do. Part of the B vitamin family, biotin is required by many different metabolic processes in the body. You may recognize it as part of women’s multivitamin formulas or in hair and nail products. If you are thinking about becoming pregnant, your doctor may have recommended a vitamin that contains biotin, but you might not know why. Research has shown that biotin supplementation can be an important part of a developing baby’s growth.

Technically referred to as Vitamin H, B vitamins are water soluble, meaning the body does not store them. They have to be assimilated from outside sources like food, supplements, or drinks on a daily basis.  All B vitamins, including biotin, work to fuel the body’s metabolism, or the conversion of food into energy. So biotin is important for breaking down proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and amino acids.

Biotin deficiency can commonly cause nails that won’t grow or nails that are weak and peeling according to medical research. Like nails, hair and skin also need biotin for healthy formation and growth. When hair becomes unhealthy it can become fragile, break more easily and possibly fall out. Since biotin is part of the vitamin B group, it helps maintain healthy hair and helps increase the volume of your hair. Great news for women with fine, thin hair like me!  Some women also experience hair loss during pregnancy, and biotin may help reduce this type of hair loss. The recommended dosage for adults is 300 micrograms.

Biotin strengthens hair and nails from the outside in. A supplement is the easiest way to get Biotin into your diet, especially when you consider that you have to take it regularly to see results. The radiance PLATINUM line of supplements offers more premium options including certified non-GMO, gluten free, certified organic, and those suitable for both vegans and vegetarians.

I had acrylic nails for 15 years and just decided to take them off about a month ago. Yes, they are still weak–I mean they have not been able to breathe for 15 years! Since taking radiance PLATINUM Biotin though, I am able to actually file them and wear nail polish. My wallet likes saving $50+ dollars and I like not spending so much time at the salon. I change my polish more often now that I don’t have to pay for it every time. My nails are getting stronger and don’t break as easily and I know the more I take Biotin, the more they will improve.
