December 26th, is Boxing Day and is a holiday celebrated in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and other Commonwealth countries. Boxing Day originated in England in the middle of the nineteenth century under Queen Victoria. Originally, servants of the wealthy were given time off on the 26th to visit their families because their services were required for the Christmas Day celebrations of their employers.

I was married to a British bloke for 9 years and we observed Boxing Day. It has most definitely evolved since it’s origination. My mother-in-law explained it to me as ‘boxing’ up the leftovers from Christmas dinner to share with friends and family. In other words, people have an open house with Christmas dinner leftovers for neighbors, friends or family.  Boxing Day is an actual holiday where banks are closed. I think it’s a great idea, everyone deserves a day off after the work and stress that goes into the holidays!

So, what this long winded post is actually about,  is to tell you I’m taking Boxing Day off! I recommend you do too! See you soon!
