I Got a Game of Thrones Facial!

You may have heard of a Vampire facial but have you heard of the Game of Thrones Facial? Better known as an “enzyme & oxygen” treatment, my Esthetician, Kaye Kearns suggested it when I was complaining about the texture in my T-zone, my brown spots, dehydrated and dull skin. That’s just one reason I love Kaye, she is treatment focused and knows just what my particular skin needs and we make a plan together to achieve my skin goals. Kaye is SO knowledgeable about the latest technology and products on the market. She’s always researching new treatments and machines and taking classes to broaden her abilities within her scope of practice. I really appreciate this about her because, in this small town, I feel like Kaye Kearns Esthetics is the only way I am going to get the cutting-edge equipment and treatments I desire. The Game of Thrones facial got its name (I believe) from the character The Hound (Sandor Clegane). His older brother, The Mountian, is the biggest and most feared man in all of Westeros. As a child, he pushed The Hound’s head into a fire for playing with one of his toys and the poor Hound bears terrible scars from the incident. When this face mask hardens, that’s kind of what it looks like. I know scary!

Kaye used the iconic oxygen and enzyme mask from DMK. The DMK skincare system was created by botanist Danné Montague-King. For more than 40 years DMK has been the best kept secret of skincare professionals in more than 30 countries. DMK believes in natural, non-invasive and pain-free solutions to skin conditions and age management. DMK formulations are botanical based & pharmaceutical grade because this ensures that the product contains enough of an ingredient to experience significant visible results. Pharmaceutical grade means less than 0.1% impurities in DMK formulations. DMK’s revolutionary concept of REMOVE, REBUILD, PROTECT and MAINTAIN aims to match an individuals biochemistry with the appropriate skin therapy.

On to the procedure! The Game of Thrones Facial is DMK’s Signature Enzyme Mask and it’s like no other treatment I’ve ever had! It’s a facial, but not a fluffy, girls-day-at-the-spa facial. This is about results! Where some cosmetic facial treatments may only act on the surface of the skin, DMK Enzyme Treatments work with the skin. The enzymes aim to strengthen the structural integrity of the skin to create a healthy environment for cells to live and thrive in.

Enzyme Treatment – the treatment lasts from 90-120 minutes and treats acne, pigmentation, aging, rosacea and scarring. These treatments will clear, correct, tighten and lift your skin.

Treatment begins with a cleanse and pre-exfoliation which is customized by your DMK Therapist depending on your skin condition. This will leave your skin feeling fresh, revitalized and a little “tingly” or warm.

Step 1 – Cleanse with appropriate cleanser. Kaye used the DMK Deep Pore Cleanser Pure Facial Cleanser, which flushes embedded impurities, and helps keep pores tight. I love the light, fluffy texture.

Step 2 – Exfoliation. Kaye applied a the DMK Quick Peel. It contains lactic acid, cinnamon and beta keratin. It smells and feels like cinnamon red hots! I’m not gonna lie, it smells great, but burns! The serum sits on the skin for 5 minutes and dissolves dead skin cells and basically de-gunks the surface of your skin. After about 3 minutes it calms down and stops burning. If you’ve ever had a chemical peel it’s much the same. To remove the mask Kaye does not rinse it off but uses a technique called Gommage. Gommage is the use of long massage-like strokes, it removes dead cells and toxins that have accumulated on the surface of the skin. Gommage works to cleanse the skin, stimulating cellular regeneration and blood circulation, and increases the effectiveness of skin products by enabling them to penetrate the skin with ease. My skin felt softer than it ever has, I mean I had newborn baby soft skin!

You can see how red and flushed my skin was after the ‘quick peel.’ Also see the pieces of dead skin, toxins and gunk that was on my skin!

Step 3  – Pre-Treatment. Kaye used DMK Super Serum, a cocktail blend of the DMK Beta Gel & Direct Delivery Vitamin C Serum to help with my pigmentation from sun damage. This serum is packed with potent beta glucan plus vitamins B and C for maximum performance.

Step 4 – Enzyme Treatment  – True oxygen therapy. Next is the application of the Enzyme Masque, this stays on for approx. 30-45 min. depending on your skin condition. The first 10 min or so feels like a thick cleanser that develops into a typical mud masque feeling. After that the mask really kicks in, drying and pulling the skin back towards your scalp, along with a pulsating sensation occurs which is the “reverse osmosis” effect drawing toxins and fluids from your skin. Reverse osmosis is a “back-flushing” action that forces fluids through the membrane around the cells, cleaning out all impurities (Lipofuscin) and leaving behind a clean, white substance. Lipofuscin is a free radical substance, created by sun damage or other trauma to the skin.

                                                                         Immediately upon application

                                                                                    15 minutes after application

During the reverse osmosis process, your skin will pulse as the blood flows to the surface–it feels really weird. Each time your skin pulses, it feels as if it’s getting bigger–I felt like my face surely must have been reaching my shoulders! Luckily that is not true. Also during this time, the enzyme masque is removing dead skin cells, activating collagen in the skin and working your facial muscles intensely. After the pulsing, the mask keeps getting tighter and tighter–so tight you can’t even talk. It doesn’t hurt, just feels VERY tight. Kaye removed the mask after 45 minutes with a lovely cleanser that she applied with a super soft fluffy brush. No lie, ladies, my skin felt and looked like I’d had a facelift, it was so incredibly firm I couldn’t stop touching it. Firm, soft and glowing skin is a fabulous result I’ll take every time!

45 minutes after application and just before removal

Step 5 – Drops appropriate for your skin condition. Kaye alternates between using and Seba E to replace the skins acid mantle post Enzyme Therapy and intense exfoliation and Melanoplex drops, a Melanin Inhibitor for my hyperpigmentation.  There are several different drops to address every skin issue.

Step 6 – Infusion – Oils and Serums appropriate for your skin condition. Kaye chose Betagel to boost the skins immune and defense system.

Step 7 – Cremes a hydrating moisturizer is used.

Step 8 – Occlusives a soothing gel moisturizer is applied.

Step 9 – Sunscreen I never leave Kaye’s table without her applying sunscreen to me.

I’ve had a lot of skin treatments and I can honestly say, the DMK Signature Enzyme Masque has provided the best results ever! I could tell a difference after just one treatment: my skin was firm, lifted, bright, and glowing. I had my third treatment today and my pores look tighter, my skin brighter, firmer and my pigmentation is lessened, especially on my chest where it is the worst. I have NEVER been this pleased with a treatment and will continue them until I reach my skin goals. People have been complimenting me on my skin, but more importantly, I feel like I look great and that gives me so much confidence! Heck, I went from looking like I had Greyscale (a la Shirleen) to looking like Daenerys Targaryen! Okay, maybe not THAT far, but younger and firmer for sure!

                                                                      Immediately after treatment

                                                                     A few hours after treatment

There are no miracle creams and to really see the benefits of the DMK Enzyme Masque a series of treatments is recommended. Then, once your skin health is stable you can go on a maintenance program. Cost of initial treatment is $325 which includes 30 days of DMK products to use at home which is a great buy. Subsequent treatments are $225.  These treatments are done in a series; the number of treatments will be determined at the initial consultation.
