Korean Beauty from JoahBox

JoahBox, $35/month, was kind enough to send us their June box to try out. The box included three skincare products and two makeup items focused around the “Me, My Skin, & I”.

Of the five summer survival products in my box, I was most excited to try the Length Boost Cara from Missha and the Time Stop Collagen Ampoule from The Plant Base. Although I’ve tried many K-Beauty products over the years, I hadn’t tested out any mascaras. On the other hand, I have used many K-Beauty serums and have always found them to be highly effective.

As I mentioned above, my JoahBox featured three skincare products. First up is the Time Stop Collagen Ampoule, $29, which is designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is formulated with a Mushroom Extract blend of four different types of mushrooms. Mushrooms seem to be the next big trend in beauty and health because it is believed they provide numerous benefits for your body, both inside and out.

I don’t know if the mushrooms in this serum are magic, but I will say they feel amazing on the skin. The formula is lightweight and blends easily into my skin. It also works well with the other skincare products in my regimen.

Next, we have the Galactomyces Drylock Mask, $10, from I’m Sorry For My Skin. Continuing with the fungus theme, this mask features Galactomyces, which helps nourish and revitalize the skin. According to the curators of the JoahBox, Galactomyces is used in a lot of Asian skincare products because of its anti-aging properties.

I really enjoyed this very invigorating and hydrating mask. It fit my face well and stayed in place the entire 15 minutes I wore it. I did feel some tingling in my T-zone area, as well as around my checks. It wasn’t an uncomfortable feeling. Instead, it was more like the mask ingredients were doing their job. My skin felt amazing afterward and even into the next day.

Finally, my box included the Aloe Vera Moisture Soothing Gel, $3, from Farm Stay. In all honesty, I didn’t think I would get much use out of this product. I try to limit my sun exposure as much as possible because I burn easily. Well, it just so happens I did end up with a little bit of a burn from being outside at my friend’s baby shower last week. I’ve been using this gel to help soothe the spots on my arms got too much sun.

What I appreciate most about the gel is that it’s free from mineral oil, artificial pigment, benzophenone, and parabens. In other words, it’s simply 100% Aloe Vera. I like to keep mine in the fridge for that extra cooling sensation. I also really like the sleek packaging. It’s perfect for travel or throwing in your summer beach or pool bag.

In addition to the skincare items, I also received a full-size Air-Fit Matte Lipstick, $17.50, from RiRe and a full-size Length Boost Cara, $9, from Missha.

Although the lipstick is matte, it doesn’t feel drying at all. The formula is very lightweight, while the pigmentation is bright and fun. If you’re not into intense color, you can blend it out to give yourself a nice stain or build it up for an intense summer lip.

The June JoahBox offered two options for Boost Cara, one in volume and one in length. Since my lashes are already pretty long, I kind of wish I had received the Volume version instead of the length. Regardless, I do really like the Volume Boost Cara. It makes my lashes look extra-long, without weighing them down. It doesn’t clump up, flake off, irritate my eyes, or make me look like I have raccoon eyes.

Overall: JoahBox is the perfect subscription box for K-Beauty newbies and fans. It’s a great way to try a range of full-sized cruelty-free, clean, eco-friendly Korean beauty products for only $35/month (box value between $60-$100).
