Kat Von D Monarch Eye and Lip Set Review!

Monarch

I admit, sometimes the Kat Von D line is intimidating to me–lots of bright colors and dark, dark lips! For someone of a certain age, like moi it can be a little overwhelming navigating the line. When I saw this warm eyeshadow palette though, it called to me and I answered!

I had a birthday recently and treated myself to this fabulous set from Kat Von D. The Kat Von D Monarch Eye and Lip Set ($75) an exclusive, limited-edition eye and lip collection from Sephora. The palette was released last year for $46 so this set is a real bargain because you not only get 12 eyeshadows, but also a lipstick, lipgloss, liquid eyeliner and mascara for only $75! I got an even better deal using the VIP 20% off coupon in November.

The palette contains three large base shades and nine accent shades in a mix of matte and shimmer. All are highly pigmented, blend easily and are easy to work with. The triple-milled shadows are buttery soft and pick up product easily while laying down with a one-sweep, full-coverage application. The patented Power Last™, long-wearing formula is infused with antioxidants, including rose extract and vitamins A, C, and E to keep your lids hydrated and protected.

Base shades:  Eye Shadow in Entomology (matte cream), Telepathy (pearl gold) and Tiny Death (glitter cream). Entomology is matte and very creamy, Telepathy is shimmery and though Tiny Death is supposed to be glittery, it has very little glittery which find by me. There is just enough to add a bit of very subtle sparkle.

Make no mistake, the Kat Von D Monarch Palette is warm toned, even though there are some silvery shades–that’s one reason I love it! Even the matte shades in the palette are creamy and smooth which is hard to do! The shimmery shades are gorgeous. I would normally talk about my favorite shades in the palette but they are ALL my favs! I love wearing silver and grey shades on my blue eyes, but SO many of them turn blue on me–I have to give Kat Von D props for making true silver shadows! Don’t be scared of the Wrath, the orange shade, especially for blue and green eyed beauties it makes a fantastic crease shade. Papilio, the chocolate shade has a bit of a purple undertone, Summerfly is a vibrant gold, Killing Jar is a lovely shimmery rose gold and Delaney is a true silver. Vanish is a matte grey taupe, Disintegration is a pale matte brown taupe. Shadow Box and Deadhead are great liner shades for smudging.

This simple look is Delaney (silver) on the lid with Disintegration (brown taupe) in the crease using Deadhead as a liner.

Packaging of the Monarch palette is inspired by the metamorphosis of the butterfly. Kat created this palette to give you endless ways to transform your eyes every day. The palette is decorated with original artwork derived from her love of butterflies—a symbol of rebirth and renewal.

On to the other goodies!

Immortal Lash 24-Hour Mascara in Black –  although the wand looks like something from the dungeon of a medieval castle, it does separate lashes nicely. I didn’t get any volume or length which is disappointing. The other disappointing thing is the wand. It almost TOO flexible so that it feels unstable and floppy. This mascara isn’t awful, but I won’t repurchase.

Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Jeffree – I like the formula–it goes on like a gloss then dries down to a stain, however this hot coral shade is too bright for me–it’s almost neon.

Studded Kiss Lipstick in Archangel Love this shade–the perfect burnt red for warm toned girls! I tend to shy away from matte lipsticks because of the lines on my lips, but I’m loving this one. Designed by Kat to resemble one of her favorite bracelets, the black, monochromatic casing is uniquely studded and topped with her KVD monogram on the outer crown and bullet.

Lightening Liner in Jett – I love this liquid liner! The click pen is easy to use, the brush is great for precision work and the shade Jett is black with just a touch of silver shimmer making it perfect for the holidays.
