It chapped lips season, y’all and it seems my full-time job has become re-applying lip balm. Now, we all know there are eleventy billion brands and types of lip balm, so which do you choose? One of the best things about being a beauty blogger is I get to support independent brands and entrepreneurs. One such brand is Kingdom of Stars, an artisanal, natural, vegan lip balm made by a Skye. Skye is a photographer and curator, which leads to a lot of travel.

“I’m always staying in great hotels, and finding pretty piles of awesome toiletries… except, they weren’t. They were drying and harsh and sometimes smelled weird… and the ingredients synthetic, petrochemical, ugh ! So, I began to make my own.”

And so Kingdom of Stars was born. These lip balms are natural, ethical, cruelty-free, feel exceptionally good on the lips and are made with argan & rose hip oil and as Laura puts it “other really special stuff.”  They smell great as well since many are made with pure essential oils. If you lick your lips often, no worries: the ingredients are mostly food grade and some are organic.

Kingdom of Stars Lip Balms are hand made in small batches with plant based, sun based, vegan skin care and they are affordable too! There are 18 luscious scents available and I was able to try four of them: Apricot, Jasmine, Yuzu and Matcha. They glide on the lips, are not sticky or waxy, smell fabulous and deliver a huge dose of moisture. Each balm contains Shea Butter, Organic Coconut Oil, Moroccan Argan Oil, ( from Women’s Co-op ), Rose Hip Seed Oil, Starflower/ Borage oil, Sunflower Oil, Vegan Candelilla Wax  (+ Essential Oils ).

Note: these balms have been specifically crafted to melt at body temperature. Please protect from high temperatures. In the event your balm melts, simply stand upright in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. This lip balm is best enjoyed from your purse, a desk drawer, a table top tray, or anywhere that is not in close proximity to a heat source.

Matcha powdered green tea is packed with antioxidants including the powerful EGCg, which calms the mind and relaxes the body

Matcha has 137 times more antioxidants than regular green tea,
including a unique, beneficial, and potent class of antioxidants known as catechins.

Matcha is rich in L-Theanine, a rare amino acid that actually promotes a state of relaxation, and of course, chlorophyll. In addition to the beautiful color, chlorophyll acts as a detoxifying agent.

Flavor / Scent : Organic FCF Bergamot Essential Oil ( Yes. Looks green, smells orange ) FCF Bergamot had been double-distilled to remove the photosensitizing agent.

This matcha lip balm has just enough matcha in it to color the balm, and will not tint your lips.

About the Japanese Yuzu Fruit:  Yuzu is a rare and costly citrus fruit from Japan. The fragrance from its yellow rind is divinely aromatic, a combination of various citrus with a hint of floral. The citrus aspect of the scent reminds me primarily of tangerine and the sweet part of grapefruit, with a bit of lemony-bergamot as well. It is a joyful and uplifting scent making every day a happy day! I love this scent in fragrance too.

About Jasmine, wildcrafted in the Himalayas :  Jasminum sambac is a species of jasmine native to a small region in the eastern Himalayas in Bhutan and neighboring India. It is widely cultivated for its attractive and sweetly fragrant flowers. The flowers are also used for perfumes and for making tea. This cultivar is most familiar to those of you who have had jasmine flower tea.

APRICOT: A silky-satiny, naturally apricot-scented balm of nourishing plant oils and butters to soften and protect lips with a subtle shine. An intensive formula concentrated with precious active ingredients to deeply soothe and replenish delicate skin to reveal soft, beautiful, lips. This uplifting, aromatic formula instantly hydrates the lips with a complex proprietary blend of bioactive, natural and organic ingredients. This smells exactly like an apricot and I want to eat it–but I don’t.

The packaging for the balms is super cute–they are all housed in tubes, with a cute geometric design: some are black and some are white. Prices are so reasonable ranging from $4.50-7.50 and can be found at the Etsy store here

Kingdom of Stars also offers boxed gift sets with 4 balms for $30.

I hope I have encouraged you to try Kingdom of Stars lip balms!
