Rock em Sock em Robots

Now that fall is approaching, I need to start thinking how I’m going to avoid those chapped lips that plague me every fall and winter. To prevent  dry, cracked lips, I turn to a lip balm vs. a lipstick in the cold weather. For those of you that prefer a lip balm to a lipstick or need more moisture that some lipsticks provide, there are a TON on the market. Today I’m going to compare one new offering, Too Faced La Créme Lip Balms ($22) with Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments ($22.50). I chose these two because they are very similar yet there still is a clear winner in my opinion.

Too Faced La Creme Lip Balms:

  • Antioxidant-rich White Lotus Flower Extract and Black Currant Seed Oil condition lips
  • Hyaluronic Filling Spheres provide a constant surge of hydration to plump and smooth lips
  • Delicious Sweet Citrus scent
  • Moisture drenched deliciousness for the ultimate lip luxury
  • Available in clear and juicy tints of color
  • Paraben Free
  • Cruelty free

They are available in six shades: Like Buttah, Hunny Bunny, Peachy Keen, Pink Slip, Just Kissed and Plum Crazy. I’m a bit disappointed in these: there is not much color difference in all the shades–they all very pale, similar shades with not a lot of pigment. They apply much lighter than what they appear like in the tube. I also don’t think they are as moisturizing as they could be.

Fresh Sugar Stars Mini Lip Collection

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments:

  • Highly moisturizing
  • Non-sticky
  • Lemon Sugar scent
  • More colors–11 vs. 6
  • SPF 15
  • Keeps lips hydrated longer
  • Do not have to apply as often
  • No Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates

For about the same price ($22.50) I much prefer the Fresh Sugar balms. Fresh Sugar balms are more moisturizing and are non-sticky with a lemon sugar scent I adore. They have an SPF of 15 which Too Faced does not. Fresh has a wider variety of colors: 11 vs. 6 though a lot of them are in the pink range. They are more color rich and have a better slip to them too. My most recent purchase is the new Tulip (review here).

Freah-Sugar-Tulip

In an independent consumer testing panel on 22 subjects, after 4 weeks of twice-daily application of Sugar Passion Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15:

– 97% said it produced softer, soothed lips
– 94% said it improved the appearance of dry, chapped lips and noticed more hydrated, healthier-looking lips
– 90% said it retexturized the lips
– 87% said it prevents dryness

And the winner is……..Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments!!! The crowd roars!  Sephora has a darling set of Fresh Lip Legends ($55)– a mini lip collection (7 shades) with a different shade for each day of the week and something sweet for every occasion, every look, and every mood. Like a beauty blogger friend said “Fresh Sugar balms are the perfect little indulgence.”

  1. i am an eos girl through and through. i keep a little ball of eos in my nightstand and apply it religiously.

  2. Good to know! I gave up on the Fresh Sugar Balms a few years ago because they always broke off the tube and they were too expensive to have to throw out. They must have fixed that since you prefer them! What has completely fixed my incessantly cracked, chapped lips is City Lips Lip Plumper because of the HA and collagen. Love it coz it stays on even overnight.

  3. I haven’t really branched out into the expensive lip balms. If I’m going to pay a lot, I want more color! I love the LaCreme lipsticks, that’s too bad that the balms aren’t as good. I’ve never tried Fresh Sugar – maybe they can change my mind about lip balms!
