Purchased by me

I’ve been longing to try a palette from Lorac ever since reading rave reviews about their Pro Palettes. I held off because I had so many other palettes to use, but then I saw the teaser for their new 2015 Alter Ego Summer Collection. The colors were bold and beautiful, and perfect for summer. What can I say; I am sucker for bright colors.

The collection consists of two eyeshadow palettes, Heartbreaker and Dream girl, 18 lip glosses, and three bronzers. You can find the Dream girl palette, 16 of the 18 lip glosses, and all three bronzers on Lorac’s website and at Kohl’s. The Heartbreaker palette, all 18 lip glosses, and two of the bronzers can be found exclusively at Ulta.

After reviewing the collection, I decided to purchase the Ulta exclusive Heartbreaker palette, $24, and the Alter Ego Lip Glosses in Heartbreaker and Dream Girl, $15 each.

First, let’s just talk about the packaging…gorgeous. There is just something about hot pink that I can’t resist. Maybe it’s because it reminds me of my 80s childhood and all the neonness of the decade.

The palette has a modern, yet retro feel. The size makes it perfect for travel or everyday use. Inside the palette, you’ll find a full size mirror and 10 shadows, with a mix of matte and shimmer, though most of the shades have some type of shimmer.

The colors don’t have names, or at least not as far as I can find, so I will describe going from left to right.

Lorac Palette Swatches 1Shadow 1 – light latte/coffee colored brown matte

  Shadow 2 – peachy/pink shimmer

Shadow 3 – mauve/purple shimmer

Shadow 4 – copper/brown shimmer

Shadow 5 – light cream matte

Lorac Palette Swatches 2

Shadow 6 – midnight blue shimmer

Shadow 7  – silver shimmer

Shadow 8 – mint/sky blue shimmer

Shadow 9 – dark brown shimmer with pink/gold glitter

Shadow 10 – slivery white shimmer

The shadows are pigmented, but not overly so, which makes them easy to blend and build. I found the formula to be creamy and not powdery. I loved the color combination, though I do feel like the dark brown shadow on the right hand side of the palette is a bit of an odd choice with the cool blue, sliver and mint shades. Although, once applied with the other shadows, they all worked well together.

I had so much fun creating looks with each side of the palette, as well as combining the two. I can’t wait to see what else I can create. This may become my favorite, go to palette for summer.

Lorac Alter Ego Lip Gloss – Heartbreaker & Dream Girl

 Lorac Alter Ego Glosses

I’m already a big fan of Lorac lip glosses. Not only are they highly pigmented, but they also have a yummy vanilla scent, and contain antioxidants such as acai berry, pomegranate, grape seed extract, and vitamins C and E. I love wearing a beautiful, high shine gloss that is also rich in lip enhancing products. Gotta keep my lips looking good for the long haul.

As I mentioned above, the summer collection features 16 glosses, plus two Ulta exclusives in Heartbreaker and Dream Girl. Named after the two palettes in the collection, Heartbreaker is a light fuchsia, and Dream Girl is a peachy pink. In fact, the colors are a perfect match to packaging of each palette.

I absolutely love both shades. I don’t think I could pick a favorite. Heartbreaker is such a fun bright pink, while Dream Girl is the perfect summer light pink with hints of peach. The formula smells so yummy, and feels amazing on the lips. It’s not too sticky, but just sticky enough to have staying power. I’m trying to resist the urge to go out and buy more; will power, please kick in.

Bottom Line: Lorac’s Alter Ego Summer Collection is a hit. Granted, I haven’t tried the bronzers, but if they are anything like the gloss and shadows palettes, I am sure they just as incredible. The palettes and glosses are affordably priced at $24 and $15, and the color payoff on both is perfection!

  19. I have to agree. This is my first purchase of a Lorac product. The packaging is awesome. It reminds me of the 80’s Barbie pink. I’m looking for something different than the super glittery Urban Decay shadows.
