MAC Cinderella Stroke of Midnight Eye Shadow Palette!

MAC-Cinderella-2015-Collection-2

I honestly don’t remember the last time I purchased anything from MAC. I found the constant limited edition collections filled with re-promotes not only difficult to keep up with, but exhausting. However, Cinderella has a special place in  my heart. I purchased the MAC Stroke of Midnight Eye Shadow Palette ($44) for the fabulous best selling neutral shades all housed in one convenient palette.

In my tenure at my job I have acquired many nicknames all related to Cinderella. It started off as Princess, which morphed into a variation of my name–Cindyrella, and for the last few years was shortened to Cinders. In addition, as a child, my daughter loved the movie and I would sing her the Bibbety-bobbity-boo song to get her to sleep. For a short time, when she was about four, she had an imaginary friend named Gus Gus (the mouse in the movie) that misbehaved. Gus Gus wrote on the wall and cut her bangs. Yeah, riiiiight. Anyway, the movie Cinderella evokes special memories for me.

“Eyes look entrancing in the softest browns, glimmering champagne and sparkle-flecked black of Stroke of Midnight. Transformed in specially lavender blue packaging.”

At one time or another, I have owned all the shades in the palette with the exception of the new Stroke of Midnight shade. The palette has a neutral theme with some of MAC’s best sellers. That’s why I purchased it–I can have my favorite neutral MAC shades all in one place. Good news for me, maybe bad news for die hard MAC fans that may already own these colors.

  • Vapour – peachy pink with a velvet finish
  • Phloof!- frosted pinkish off white–great highlighter
  • Omega – matte warm medium brown
  • Quarry – matte soft plum brown
  • Satin Taupe – everyone’s favorite taupe with silver shimmer
  • Stroke of Midnight – matte black velvet with plum sparkle

I’m happy to say the quality of the permanent shades is as good as they are in individual pans, however I found Stroke of Midnight more difficult to work with and blend. I will probably only use it for a liner anyway. The rest of the shadows are smooth and finely milled with excellent wear.

All the reviews of the Cinderella Collection give the packaging raves and I have to say I disagree–at least the packaging for the Stroke of Midnight Palette. To me, it looks just like the plastic packaging on any L’Oreal or drugstore palette. I find it very uninspiring–a glass slipper or a crown embossed on the solid blue base would have been nice. Even a delicate bird or a mouse on the lid would be an improvement.

Bottom Line: If you are new to MAC or are a neutral lover like me, this palette has some fabulous basic shades that you will get a lot of use from all in one place. On the other hand, if you are a MAC fan, you probably already have these shades and can skip the limited edition Stroke of Midnight without regret.

  1. These shades look pretty but I wish they looked a little more special since they are priced at $44. I enjoyed reading about your special connection to Cinderella though!

  2. How sweet that you can share your love of Cinderella with your daughter. I wasn’t really feeling this collection, but I don’t own much MAC anyway. It is nice to have some great neutrals all in one palette, though, I agree.

  4. I adore this palette. IDC that it’s mostly perm. Ever since it arrived it’s been what I reach for 80% of the time. Plus the special packaging is a nice bonus 😉

  5. That is wonderful that you are so strongly associated and attached to the story of Cinderella. I’m dying to see the movie. I hadn’t really considered this palette, but I love your swatches. It is very very pretty!

  10. I love the shade of blue they used on the packaging but they should have made it a little more creative. I own all but Vapour and the limited edition shade which is why I passed it up but it is a great neutral palette. My grandson has an invisible giant that does things like Gus Gus so I guess it’s universal.

  11. I wanted some items from this collection but I missed out… Just a little too late, everywhere, every time I checked and we have no in store MAC shopping, here. ie sigh Oh well… I just drool every time I see this palette. lol

  12. I bought this collection for the packaging and really liked it. I did grab this palette, but the main “packaging” items I was after were the beauty powder and iridescent powder compacts.

  16. Well hello there Cinders ;-)I agree, it’s hard to keep up w/ MAC’s non-stop releases. The novelty is gone for me.

  21. I actually stalked the MAC site for this. I love everything about this palette. It’s definitely a favorite of mine this month. =)
