This week our makeup warriors are featuring both new and favorite products from Milani. Milani is a drugstore brand with some real all-stars in their line.

Today I’m talking about one of the new eyeshadow palettes. The brand launched two new eyeshadow palettes this spring: Most Loved Mattes and Bold Obsessions.  Both palettes contain 12 eyeshadows. Most Loved is all matte and Bold Obsessions has matte, satin and shimmer shades. The palettes retail for $20 but I purchased Bold Obsessions at my local Walmart for $14.99–a steal for 12 eyeshadows!

The palette is arranged in three vertical columns each coordinated for a different look. Each column has two mattes and two shimmers. Of course, you can mix and match as you like.

The first column is Sunrise:

  • Can’t Pink Straight – a matte cream, I don’t see any pink in it at all
  • Sands of Time – champagne shimmer
  • Suede Side to Side – satin fawn brown
  • Brunettes Have Fun – matte dark brown

The middle column is Sunset:

  • Sweet As Honey – matte terracotta
  • Gold- Getter – shimmery gold
  • Blazing Hot- shimmery red/copper
  • Red Between the Lines – satin red/burgundy

Third column Nightfall:

  • Bare In Mind – matte beige
  • Slate All Day – satin dove grey
  • Smoke Signals – shimmery navy blue
  • Little Black Dress – matte black with subtle sparkle

It’s rare that you come across an eyeshadow palette where every shade is consistent, some will be patchy to apply or chalky in texture. The formula in this palette is excellent: the mattes are smooth and creamy, the satins are silky, and the shimmers are intensely pigmented. The color payoff is great, they do not crease and are really long-lasting. Gold-Getter does have some fallout though it is minimal–I found it works best applied with a finger rather than a brush.

Milani put a lot of thought into this palette; it has a full mirror and each shade is named (on the back of the palette). I prefer shade names to be under the pans, but hey for $15 I can’t expect the world. Many high-end brands don’t even do that.

The gold packaging gives off a luxe vibe and the mix of shades and finishes is wonderful. And it’s actually quite versatile, you can create a smokey eye, a pretty sunset look or a work appropriate eye.

I tried the Sunset Eye and used a few other shades as well. I started with Sweet As Honey in the crease, deepened that a bit with Blazing Hot in the outer corner, darkened that with Red Between the Lines, tapped Gold-Getter on the lid, and put Can’t Pink Straight on the brow bone. I used Little Black Dress to line the upper lash line and the outer corner of the lower lash line. With a detail brush, I ran Blazing Hot under the lower lash line.

I’m so impressed with this palette that now I want the Most Loved Mattes too.  I think these two eyeshadow palettes are a fantastic addition to any collection.

Another new release from Milani is the Amore Shine Liquid Lipsticks ($9). There are 12 shades and I chose two to give them a test: Enchanting, a lovely warm pink and Crush, a pretty mauve nude. These are great if you like liquid lipsticks but are tired of mattes–I raise my hand! I never fully embraced the matte look, give me glossy lips every damn day.

These provide full coverage in one swipe, are shiny and feel lightweight on the lips. The curved doe foot applicator hugs lips to make application easy peasy. As with any glossy product, they lose their shine after a few hours but the creaminess remains.
