Ever wonder what to newest lip trend might be? As a lippie fanatic, I’m often on the lookout for the latest and greatest. Today, this comes in the form of the Mally Pure Pigment Melting Lip Powder Duo, $19. And although the name is a mouthful, these little duos are quite innovative and trend worthy.

Mally Pure Pigment Lippies

Mally Pure Pigment Design

So just what is a Pure Pigment Melting Lip Powder? They’re revolutionary tiny jars full of pigments that transform from powder to cream in one swipe.  Each powder pigment contains encapsulated water which breaks up once it hits your lips. Not only do they provide color, they’re also designed to deliver hydration. It’s not as intense as a lipgloss or lip balm, but this technology does prevent your lips from feeling dry during wear.

The duos come in two options, Soft Nude and Tender Rose and Mellow Mauve and Gentle Pink. I like the idea of having a choice between a nude or pink lip in one set. The colors in both sets are very pretty and very wearable all year long.

The packaging of these Mally Pure Pigment duos is also unique. It does remind me a bit of the Lancôme Juicy Shakers, although these duos feature a doe foot wand, as opposed to a sponge tip. I also like that the clear bottle allows me to see the color of each powder. I don’t have to look at the name or open the product to figure out which is the nude and which the pink.

My Experience

I have mixed feelings about the Mally Pure Pigment Melting Lip Powder Duos. On the one hand, I adore the creativity and innovation of this product. However, one the other hand, they do take some finessing and practice to get a smooth application.

While the color pigment is nice, it didn’t go on as smoothly as I hoped. The reason for this is swiping doesn’t work as well as tapping. I find that if I tap on the powders, and then swipe, I get a more even color payoff.  I would also suggest making sure your lips are well hydrated. Otherwise, the Mally Pure Pigment powders will cling to dry patches.

Initially, I thought about giving up on these fun duos. Instead, I decided to keep using them and to my delight, they got better with use. Maybe it’s because my lips aren’t as dry. Maybe the formulation needs more priming or usage. Whatever, the reason, these duos are growing on me.

While I don’t think they are perfect, I do think the Mally Pure Pigment Melting Lip Powder Duos are worth trying. Not only are they inventive, but the colors are flattering and the formula is lightweight. I do hope Mally continues to work on the formula and color options. With a little tweaking, these might become the next big thing in lip trends.

  3. I’ve been curious about these but I think I’ll pass. The colors are beautiful but I think it sounds like too much worse.

  5. Hmmm. I’m interested in seeing what they look like mixed and how they would look with gloss or another lip product.
