Marc Jacobs Beauty Object of Desire Face and Eye Palette!

Purchased by me

Every Holiday season I treat myself to one beauty purchase I might not ordinarily buy–maybe it’s over budget or out of my comfort zone or maybe it’s something I’ve been lusting after for eons. This year, I chose the Sephora exclusive Marc Jacobs Object of Desire Face and Eye Palette ($69). The packaging screams luxury and the shades are totally me.

The palette is housed in a luxurious patent vegan leather gold pouch with an on-trend swinging black tassel. It has a full sized mirror and zips all the way round. Take the plastic insert out and it doubles as a pretty evening bag, perfect for the holidays. If I didn’t have a penchant for losing clutches, I would do just that. Seriously, if it’s not Pony Express sized bag and attached to my arm, I will never see it again. Whatever… let’s talk about what’s inside!

This multi-use palette includes a blush, bronzer, limited edition highlighter and six eyeshadows.

  • O!Mega Bronzer in Tantric – perfect for pale skin!
  • Blush in Exhibitionist, a pretty rose
  • Luminizer in Make a Sheen, a cool gold shimmer (LE)
  • Lights On, a beige shimmer
  • Candlelight, a golden peachy shimmer
  • Dimmer, a matte light tan
  • Violet Hour, a matte dusty lavender
  • Twilight, plum shimmer
  • In the Dark, shimmery blackened plum with gold flecks

Marc Jacobs Objects of Desire

Exhibitionist is a satin blush in a beautiful rose pink. It has great pigment, is smooth, easy to blend and will flatter all skin tones. The O!Mega Bronzer in Tantric has NO orange in it, thankfully. It also has a lovely soft texture and applies evenly. It’s perfect for my fair skin though I don’t know if it would be suitable for dark skin. Make a Sheen Luminizer is gorgeous: a cool shimmery white gold that highlights beautifully. There are no glitter or chunky bits–it truly makes skin glow without being obvious.

Marc Jacobs Object of Desire

On to the creamy, buttery shadows! Object of Desire has the perfect ratio of matte to shimmer eyeshadows.  That is four shimmer:two matte–um, yeah, that’s the sum of my math knowledge. For me, this palette has the neutrals I covet as well as the purples I crave. All of them have good color payoff and are very easy to work with. Tip: these shadows are so ultra soft and velvety so make sure to use a soft brush–I used a stiffer brush and had to tap off the excess because these shadow are so finely milled.

Lights On is a beige shimmer with a slight pink undertone I use on the brow bone and inner corner. I think this could be used as a highligher on cool skin tones too. You could also do a classic look with just this on the lid and a wicked winged liner. I love to wear shades like Candlelight; it’s a shimmery peachy gold that makes my eyes look awake and glowing. Dimmer, a matte tan is fantastic as a crease and/or blending shade. You can see that even though Dimmer has a matte finish, it’s NOT flat–well done Mr. Jacobs!

For this eye look I used Lights On on the brow bone, Candlelight on the lid and Dimmer in the crease. I took a very fine liner brush and used In the Dark to line upper and lower lashes.

Violet Hour is a pretty matte/satin grey lavender, Twilight is a gorgeous shimmery plum and In the Dark is a stunning blackened plum with gold flecks that will make a drop-dead smoky eye. I also love it for lining and smudging. I hope you can tell from my swatches that even the matte shades have a lovely luster to them.

My purple eye look has Lights On on the brow bone and on inner corner, Violet Hour on the lid, Twilight in the crease, In the Dark to line upper and lower lashes, winged out.

Object of Desire Look

Foundation: Osmosis Long Wear Liquid Foundation (reviewed here, Tantric bronzer under cheek bones, along hairline, Exhibitionist blush, Make a Sheen Luminizer on top of cheek bones.

Lips: NYX Lip Primer, Youngblood Pink Lust Lipstick (reviewed here).

I am a self confessed palette Ho, but typically there are one or two shades that don’t work for me or that I don’t use– so NOT the case with Object of Desire! The palette is ideal for travel and in fact it was the only thing besides mascara, foundation and lipstick that I took with me on a recent trip. That’s a first for me!

Bottom Line: the Marc Jacobs Object of Desire Face and Eye Palette is of exceptional quality, is well curated, is perfect for travel and the packaging is sumptuous! It would also make a very nice gift for a makeup enthusiast. I’m very happy with my purchase, it was a little pricey but I have been using it constantly so it was worth it.
