When you grow up in Florida protecting your skin from the sun is essential. As someone with pale skin, I’m hyper-aware of the sun and the need for a sunscreen that keeps me from turning into a lobster. It also needs to not irritate my very sensitive skin. I’ve found both thanks to the MyChelle Sun Protection line.

The brand was kind of to send me three products to try, including:

  • Replenishing Solar Defense Body Lotion SPF 50 Broad Spectrum – $29.50
  • Sun Shield Liquid SPF 50 Broad Spectrum, Non-Tinted – $22.50
  • Sun Shield Stick SPF 50 Broad Spectrum, Tinted – $12.00

I put all three to the test in my daily life, and to the ultimate test, in a recent trip to Universal Studios Orlando.

MyChelle Sun Protection Body Lotion

MyChelle Sun Protection Replenishing Solar Defense Body Lotion

Before applying the first layer of this SPF 50 Broad Spectrum sunscreen, I was excited to see what wasn’t in the ingredients. The MyChelle Sun Protection line is cruelty-free and formulated without GMOs, gluten, parabens, petroleum, phthalates, sulfates, ureas, artificial fragrances, and artificial colors. Some of the products are also vegan. The Replenishing Solar Defense Body Lotion is vegetarian.

The body lotion is 100% mineral-based, with zinc oxide being the active UVA/UVB broad-spectrum ingredient. Although the body lotion has a thick consistency, it absorbs quickly into the skin. It’s not sticky or drying thanks to ingredients like coconut oil and shea butter. I found this especially beneficial for my very dry skin and for being out in the sun all day. Additionally, it doesn’t leave behind the dreaded white cast.

MyChelle Sun Protection Sun Shield

MyChelle Sun Protection Sun Shield Lotion and Stick

I also tried the Sun Shield Liquid in Non-Tinted and Sun Shield Stick in Tinted. I really like having the option to use a tinted or non-tinted sunscreen in two different formats. (Both the liquid and stick are available in tinted and non-tinted versions.)

Like the MyChelle Sun Protection Body Lotion, the Sun Shields are cruelty-free and don’t contain GMOs, gluten, parabens, petroleum, phthalates, sulfates, ureas, artificial fragrances and colors. The Sun Shield Lotion is also vegan, while the Stick is vegetarian.

I really like wearing the non-tinted liquid under my makeup to help protect my skin from the damaging effects of UVA/UVB rays. The 100% mineral sunscreen also features a lightweight, oil-free formulation that blends effortlessly into the skin. It doesn’t break up my makeup, irritate my skin, or have flashback.

You do have to be careful when applying it as it sometimes it can squirt out of the bottle and get everywhere. To prevent this, I try to cup my hand over the pump.

MyChelle Sun Protection Sun Shield Stick Tinted Swatch

On no-makeup days I like to use the MyChelle Sun Protection Sun Shield Stick in Tinted. It does a nice job of evening out my skin tone and providing broad-spectrum protection. I wore it during my Universal experience. Not because I’m vain, but to hide the terror on my face as I went on the rides or had to explain why I wouldn’t go on most of the rides. Yes, roller coasters and pretend roller coasters scare me.

But this proud chicken digresses…Like the other products, the stick is also a mineral sunscreen. The formula glides on smoothly, without tugging at my skin. I was able to reapply it with ease while I waited for my family to go on a ride I decided to skip. And with ingredients like avocado, jojoba and vitamin E oils my skin felt continually hydrated throughout the day.

MyChelle Sun Protection Universal Trip

As you can probably tell, I’ve become a fan of the MyChelle Sun Protection line. I’m very impressed by what’s in the products, and what’s not. The Body Lotion and Sun Shields do a great job of protecting my delicate skin, without irritating it. I survived Universal without becoming a lobster.

It’s hard not to support a brand like MyChelle. Their cruelty-free sunscreens are also water-resistant and reef safe. 1% of all their sun care sales line help support the Surfrider Foundation, which helps save our oceans, waves and beaches.

  3. Yes! Yes! Yes! I’m a huge advocate for sunblock! Growing up in the southwest, I learned the importance of it year round. I love that this line has a 50spf face cream…that’s rare to find. I have to get some! That made me so happy!
