The NARS Summer 2011 Collectionis a range of warm, sophisticated, shimmering shades, punctuated with shots of vivid, nature-defying color.  Eyes are washed in icy sea foam, silver-green and frozen turquoise. Lips are infused with mandarin orange gloss and hot pink matte color. The look is finished with nails in bold sunflower yellow or matte opaque white for a modern, edgy effect that’s strictly NARS.  There are some very original and unique looks here–typical of Francois Nars!

Cap Ferret Trio Eyeshadow ($45) –Icy sea foam, silver green, icy turquoise (Limited Edition). I really wish blues looked better on me, I would snap this up in a heartbeat. An improvement over past eyeshadow trios, the colors are now in their own pans making it easier to work with. If this doesn’t remind you of the Caribbean, I don’t know what will.

Eyeshadow Duos ($33) –

  • Dogon Metallic taupe with icy green sheen and charcoal black (Limited Edition)
  • Exotic Dance Metallic white with silver sheen and metallic gold (Limited Edition)
  • Francois Nars never ceases to amaze and delight me with his vision and unique color combinations. Dogonis not a duo I would normally choose. It doesn’t look very exciting in the pan, the dark navy is scary, and it looks very cool toned. It wasn’t until I swatched it that the complexity of the shadow revealed itself and I had to have it. Complex–just how I like my shadows. I’d like to think I gravitate toward complicated colors because of my complex multifaceted personality, but it’s really much simpler than that. Like a fish to a lure, I’m drawn to shiny pretty things.

    NARS Dogon Eye Shadow Duo

Dogon is a departure from the rest of the NARS summer line; an enigma. In the pan it appears as a taupe and a dark navy. In reality, the taupe is an intricate duo chrome that flashes a silvery icy green and the dark navy is really an almost matte deep charcoal with blue flecks.  The taupe is shimmery, pale and golden with an underpinning of silvery green–very hard to describe. I was afraid the charcoal would be chalky, but it’s very easy to work with and the blue flecks add a nice dimension.

    Taupe with green duochrome

Oooh, pretty blue flecks in the charcaol/navy side

I used the taupe shade on the lid, the charcoal in the crease and then blended the taupe over the crease to bring out the green which, when blended, turned into a lovely blackened teal. I got this layering tip from Marcia at Beauty Info Zone in her review of Dogon.  This duo has me utterly captivated.  I would say this is a must have for almost everyone and it’s limited edition, so hurry!

I also swatched Exotic Dance but it was too metallic and sparkly for me. A fish doesn’t bite every time! On to the rest of the line:

New Order Blush ($27)- Soft pink with gold and silver shimmer–a LOT of shimmer!
Soft Touch Shadow Pencil ($24) -Queen – Modern citrus gold glitter (Limited Edition)
Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($24) – Bolero Pink cantaloupe

Lipstick ($24) in Mayflower-Sheer raspberry with shimmer

Pure Matte Lipstick ($24) – Carthage Matte, hot pink

Lipgloss ($24)- Wonder Shiny, sheer mandarin orange with pink and gold shimmer

    Nail Lacquer ($17)

    • Ecume Opaque white (Limited Edition)

    1. Dogon looks FABULOUS on you!!

    2. I always layer it when I wear it and now I’m experimenting to see which other Nars duos look good that way. Thanks for the shout out.

We had a very talented NARS makeup artist in the store in which I work as a MUA and she always layered the colors. I was amazed at how some of the colors I considered to be unwearable became just that with her talented brush!!!

    4. I love that Dogon duo; it looks fantastic on you.
