It’s been a hot minute since I’ve purchased anything from Benefit Cosmetics. Oops, I take that back–I have bought mascara: both They’re Real (reviewed here) and Roller Lash. But when Benefit launched their newest boxed blush, GALifornia ($29) I took notice! The design on the box could have been my bedroom wall when I was a tween going up in Southern California. It totally reminds me of the flower power stickers on had on my skateboard and the surfer girl posters in my room. Ah yes, the days of suede fringe vests and floppy hats: I had both.
One thing Benefit has always done exceptionally well is blush. I think I have all of them. GALifornia is a warm golden pink that does indeed, remind me of my younger days on the beach in California. You know, when you’ve spent all day playing in the water, eating a picnic lunch, then come home, shower off the sand and your cheeks are a bright pink? That’s GALifonia, and it’s my jam, man. I’ll take a pinky coral blush any day of the week. Now, take that pinky coral, infuse it with golden pearl bits and you have created the subtle, sunny glow that is GALifornia. And for extra cuteness, this blush smells like vanilla grapefruit, just like the hundreds of grapefruit and orange trees that littered the fields when I was growing up in Orange County, California. The fragrance is subtle like the glow, I don’t even notice it unless I put my face in the box. This will undoubtedly reach cult status among beauty junkies and newbies alike.
The pretty sunburst design is gold overspray and will disappear after you run a brush through it. The sunburst is embossed so you won’t lose that. Don’t be afraid older women, GALifornia is NOT orgasm with chunks of glitter. The blush is pigmented and lasts longer than Kylie and Tyga. Oops sorry, what doesn’t? It lasted a good 8 hours on me. The texture is silky, builds easily and doesn’t cling to dry skin. I think GALifornia will flatter pretty much all skin tones including deep ones.
Benefit’s packaging is always adorable and GALifornia lives up to the kitschy aesthetic. The box is adorned with a cool surfer chick with round John Lennon sunglasses and what we used to call “psychedelic” design. Inside is the traditional flat bristled brush that all Benefit powders come with. I’m not a fan but I will say this one is softer than the older ones, but still, I’ll use one of own. Not to be a negative Nancy but I noticed the reduced size: GALifornia is 5.0 g Net wt. 0.17 oz. whereas my older Benefit blushes, Coralista and Bella Bamba are 8.0 g Net wt. 0.28 oz. for the same $29 price point. Not groovy, Benefit!
Bottom Line: Benefit GALifornia is a welcome addition to any beauty lovers blush stash and a must-have for spring and summer. Over 40 gals you’ll love the subtle glow!
That blush sounds amazing! I love the packaging that it comes in, too! Super cute.
I’m totally smitten!
I don’t wear much make up but I do love this brand. The packaging is really creative too.
I agree, LOVE thee packaging!
I so love the color! The design is beautiful, as expected from Benefit! I agree with you as well, I think it’s a must have for the season.
This looks beautiful. I follow a few youtubers who were at the benefit launch of this product. I’ve only heard good things about it.
I love all types of make up & this Sounds like an awesome brand! I also love the detailed photos! 🙂
Your blush is pretty. I have naturally rudy skin so I don’t like to wear much blush. I would like to be able to wear a pretty color!
That’s a wonderful shade of blush. I don’t know that I would look good in it, but I would be willing to try it.
It’s flattering on all skin tones!
I seldom wear makeup but I love your description and review of this blush. What a beautiful shade it is. I can see why you would love wearing it.
It’s perfect for spring and summer!
Wow, love to try this!
Go give it a swatch!
This is gorgeous!! I’ve been seeing it everywhere lately and can’t get over how beautiful this shade is. Definitely their best creation yet! x
I totally agree!
Wow this is gorgeous. I love the packaging. I colour is so lovely. xx
Isn’t the packaging cute?
I love Benefit packaging and I think the little brush is so cute – although do tend to just use my own brushes rather than the ones that come with palettes! I could do with a new blush so will look into this one!
It will really brighten your complexion!
I love benefit blushes but this new launch didn’t “wow” me. It looks like any other peach blush and I prob won’t be picking it up 🙁 I’ll stick with their Hoola bronzer!
Did you know that Benefit has a new Hoola Lite bronzer?
Wow that is a pretty box for a blush! Love it though. I’ve never heard of this brand though, I will have to check them out.
Benefit has lots of great products!
I like a natural-look blush. These look like an interesting product line. I will have to check into these.
Definitely do!
Oh my gosh it’s so beautiful I almost wouldn’t want to use it!! lol The packaging and everything is gorgeous! Also, you are never too old for shimmer!
Fortunately the gold is just overspray so you won’t look like a glitter bomb, but the blush itself has a lovely sheen!
I’d so love to try this!
This looks really pretty! I love trying new blushes
This one is very flattering!
I do love Benefit blushes, I use their Dandelion shade quite a lot but I really like the look of Galifornia it is lush!
Give GALifornia a try! Swatch it in store!
I feel like a good blush is the unsung hero of a complete makeup bag. I really like the golden color on top I wish it was laced throughout the color but the color is stunning and probably beautiful on lots of skin tones.
I love a great blush! This color looks perfect for Spring & Summer! So bright but not too loud!
That’s it exactly!
I love this brand, but it has been awhile since I’ve used anything by them. This blush would be perfect for spring/summer!
It definitely is!
I love the shade of this blush. So gorgeous and the perfect glimmer to it
