Redken frizz dismiss collection

Back in my high school days, I remember spending quite a bit of time trying to get my hair just right, only to have turn into a frizzy mess by the time I got to school. I never understood how in the limited time I spent going from my house to the car, to briefly walking across campus could make my hair look so very, very wrong. Granted, I grew up in Florida, and shouldn’t have been surprised, especially considering how much product I used in my hair. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT. It was the late 80s and early 90s, after all.

Since that time, my hair and hair care routine have drastically changed. Although I use much less product, the frizz still rears its ugly head, especially in the hot, humid summer. Enter the new Frizz Dismiss Collection, $18.50-$25.00, from Redken. The collection contains seven products, ranging from shampoo and conditioner to styling spray and taming crème.

Frizz Dismiss features the breakthrough technology Humidity Resist Complex, which includes ingredients designed to repel humidity and lock in moisture, while also smoothing, nourishing and strengthening hair. The collection is also sulfate and sodium chloride-free, making it suitable for all hair types, including chemically treated hair. Because the collection is designed for all hair types and textures, Redken has a FPF scale, or frizz protection factors scale, to help you determine which products are most suitable for your hair in different humidity levels.

Since I was sent these products, I wasn’t able to try out the scale. However, the items I did receive were perfect for my fine hair and the level of humidity I deal with most days.

Redken Frizz Dismiss Sulfate-Free Shampoo, 10.1 fl oz, $18.50

The shampoo in the collection is designed to work on all hair types, and all humidity levels. What most surprised me about this sulfate and sodium chloride-free shampoo was its lather ability. Most sulfate free shampoos don’t lather, and while I understand this, I like the lather. It makes me feel like my hair is really being cleansed.

I enjoyed using the shampoo. The lather is great, and the scent is fruity and refreshing, but without being overpowering. My hair felt gently cleansed, and I had the feeling the frizz protection process had begun.

Redken Frizz Dismiss Conditioner, 8.5 fl oz, $19.50

The next product I tested out was the conditioner. Like the shampoo, the conditioner is also designed to work on all hair types, in all humidity levels. I really liked this product. It was moisturizing and prevented tangles from forming in my hair. I also felt it helped improve the manageability and shine factor of my hair.

One of the best features of the conditioner is the size of the product, which is 8.5 ounces, compared to the 10.1 ounces of shampoo. I always use up my shampoo before I finish the conditioner. Even though I  end up using the leftover conditioner with shampoo samples I receive, or in place of shaving cream, I hate having so many bottles cluttering up the bathroom. Thanks to Redken, I have a feeling I will be using both products up around the same time.

If you are looking for an intense smoothing treatment, in addition to the conditioner, the collection does include a Frizz Dismiss Mask, $20.50.

Redken Frizz Dismiss FPF 20 Smooth Force, 5 fl oz, $22.00

 Redken frizz dismiss smooth force

Finally, I tried out the Smooth Force Lightweight smoothing lotion spray made especially for fine/medium hair in low to high humidity levels. This spray helps with detangling, improves manageability, all while providing protection from heat styling (up to 446 degrees F), lasting frizz control, as well as smoothing and humidity protection.

I’ve been using heat protection sprays for a couple of years now, and I really do think they help ensure my hair doesn’t get damaged during drying, flat ironing, or curling. The one thing they don’t do is protect against humidity. I’ve tried other humidity sprays, but to no avail. You should see pictures of my hair from my recent beach vacation. It looked like a giant frizz ball. If only I had had the Smooth Force spray then. I would have had beautiful, smooth, frizz-free locks.

While the Smooth Force is designed for fine/medium hair, the collection does include an FPF 30 Instant Deflate serum for medium/coarse hair, $22.00, and a FPF 40 Rebel Tame for coarse hair, $22.00. Finally, you can finish off your style, no matter your hair type, with the FPF 10 Fly-Away Fix finishing sheets,$25.00.

Bottom Line: The Redken Frizz Dismiss Collection definitely delivers on its promise to give you frizz-free hair. All the products I tried worked really well together. They are more than worth the, on average, $20 price point. The shampoo, conditioner, and smoothing lotion spray helped give me the summer hair I’ve always wanted, even on day two and three.

Redken was kind enough to send me two sets of the Frizz Dismiss Sulfate-Free Shampoo, Conditioner, and FPF 20 Smooth Force, and I’m giving the set away to one of you. Just complete the tasks below for your chance to win. Open to US residents over 18.
