Reveal a New You with Garden Botanika!

Spring is the season for renewal and rebirth, and while spring may be arriving in some places, it will be some time before it makes its way to where I live–we are expecting snow again this weekend. Consequently, my poor dry, scaly legs haven’t seen the light of day all winter. Seriously, it is so cold in my office I need fingerless gloves just to type–okay I haven’t actually worn them, but I’ve thought about it. My skin is so dreadfully dry that I’ve managed to acquire these lovely little bumps on the tops of thighs and on my arms–no wonder I don’t have a boyfriend–my skin is as rough and bumpy as alligator skin and I’m just as grumpy about it too. Hey, maybe that’s why alligators are so nasty–they probably want smooth skin too!

Thank goodness I discovered Garden Botanika!  I tried three products from their Skin Renewing line: the Skin Renewing AHA Body Cleanser ($11.50), the Skin Renewing AHA Body Lotion ($14) and the Skin Renewing Hand Lotion ($14). Since 1989, Garden Botanika has remained true to its mission of creating products that are:

• botanically based
• a careful blend of nature and science
• cruelty-free
• gentle to the environment
• 100% satisfaction guaranteed

So what makes this shower gel and lotion different from regular bath and body products? They have Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) as an ingredient. AHA’s are naturally occuring molecules found in milk and fruit. They are commonly used to soften and exfoliate the skin and are found in many skincare treatments. The AHA’s in the Garden Botanika shower gel are derived from citrus and apple fruit extracts and loosen the dead skin cells on the surface leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth. I’m sure that’s what gives this it’s fresh and invigorating scent too. I use the shower gel with a bath scruby and it feels creamy while giving lots of good smelling foam too.

Key Ingredient:
AHA Complex

Water, Olefin Sulfonate, Cocomidopropylbetaine, Glycerin, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract & Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Extract & Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Extract & Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract & Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Guar, Caprylic Acid, Glycine, Potassium Sorbate.

The same AHA’s in the shower gel are present in the Skin Renewing Body Lotion helping to speed up cell turnover. Shea butter and sunflower seed oil provide long lasting moisture. The lotion is a fairly thin consistency, but absorbs well and has the same lovely citrus scent; light and not overpowering. I kid you not, after using both of these products only four times, my alligator skin is significally smoother and softer. Now if only Garden Botanika could find me a boyfriend! Get on that would ya?

  1. Hi Cindy! Just wanted to say, I was having many,if not all, of the skin issues you are suffering from. Then I read on another blog about a “Korean Italy Cloth”. Seems they use this thing religiously in Korea when they bathe. You shower and rinse, step out from uder the water and put this little ‘glove like’ cloth on your hand and begin to scrub.
I purchased some ($1.00 each) online from a spa (they also have hundreds on eBay). Well, let me tell you…it hurt like the dickens (it’s made of viscose) but it removed stuff I would have never believed was on me (yuck)! All the dead skin and bumpies vanished. My skin was pink and baby smooth from chest to toes. Of course, you need to moisturize afterwards but, I am loving the cloth (so does my husband) and the results. Check them out.

  2. OH MY! These products are right up my alley. I love AHA… does wonders to brighten up my skin. I also love that these products are natural. Have you tried the Yes to Carrots line? They have some amazing stuff too… MUST TRY these though. Are these sold in stores?

  3. They have the cloths that Pam mentioned in my local grocery store. I’m pretty sure there’s a brand called Salux. They are very rough though so use them with care and not on your face.

I miss having the Garden Botanika store at my mall. I used to spend a lot of time (and money there) back in the day.
