Review: Fortune Cookie Soap 2015 Fall Soap Box

Fortune Cookie Soap 2015 Fall Box

 Purchased by me

Fall is less than a month away, and I can’t wait. It is my absolute favorite time of year. I love everything about it, from its warm color palette to the amazingly rich scents that fill the air, and my chai latte. So, you can imagine my excitement when I received my Fall Soap Box from Fortune Cookie Soap, $19.99. As I have mentioned many times before, the FCS box is my favorite quarterly box.

Since the spring and summer box were focused around fairytales, I was assuming the fall box would be as well. I have to say, I was more than a little surprised to see this season’s theme was Old Hollywood. As much as I love all things Old Hollywood, I must admit I was a bit disappointed, I wanted more fairytales. I know, I sound like a small child throwing a tantrum over something ridiculous, but I digress.

Old Hollywood – What Lies Behind The Silver Screen

FCS 2015 Fall Soap Box Products

Enough pouting, let’s talk Old Hollywood. What does Lie Behind The Silver Screen of Fortune Cookie Soap Box?

As with each box I have received in the past, there is always a Fortune Cookie Soap, an OCC Hand Sanitizer, a body cream, as well as some other type of bath product(s). This time, FCS also included a new perfume oil, in a refillable vial, as well as a wax tart, pomade. and shampoo bar.

 Soap  & Hand Sanitizer

“Dressed to Kill” – Fortune Cookie Soap

FCS Dressed to Kill Fortune Cookie Soap

Drop Dead…GAWJUS.

Dribbles of mulled, red wine, swirled with dark, rich vanilla and cut apples, and a dusting of spice.

Each Fortune Cookie Soap includes a fortune, and mine featured the famous Apocalypse Now quote, “I love the smell of napalm in the morning,” I might say, “I love the smell of fall in a soap.” If Fall was a soap, it would definitely smell like Dressed to Kill. This glittery, Fortune Cookie Soap Box staple smells exceptionally yummy. Plus, the added touch of glitter in the soap makes for a nice exfoliator, and helps brighten the mood. Not to mention, every time I wash my hands I find myself wanting a glass of warm apple cider or mulled wine.

“Glitz & Glamour” – OCD Hand Sanitizer

FCS Glitz & Glamour OCD Hand Sanitizer

Put it on classy, take it off trashy.

Wet moss, polished woods, creamy vanilla.

I love the description of this OCD Hand Sanitizer more than I love the actual scent. Usually, the OCD is one of my box favorites, but there is something off about Glitz & Glamour. I’m not sure if it turned in the shipping process, it has been exceptionally hot this August, but instead of smelling the vanilla, moss, and woods, all I smell is alcohol. The overpowering alcohol scent does dissipate in time, so I can finally detect the Glitz & Glamour, which does smell nice.

Bath Products

“Scandal” – Bath Powder

FCS Scandal Bath Powder

I’m not addicted…I just like the smell of it.

Creaking woods, wind blown leaves, and twisted rose thorns.

The packaging of this bath powder is a scream. It makes me feel like I should be taking a bath while watching Less Than Zero with Robert Downey, Jr. It is such a throw back to the 80s. I haven’t tried out the powder yet, boy that sounds bad, but it does smell divine. It reminds me of a rose bush, covered with fall leaves.

Body Cream

“Tommy Guns & Baseball Bats” – Whipped Cream

FCS Tommy Guns & Baseball Bats Whipped Cream

Hey! That’s no a Violin! – Famous Last Words.

Grandma’s hot apple pie, dusted with freshly shaved cinnamon, nutmeg and warm brown sugar, topped with rich, creamy, marshmallow fluff.

I wonder if Grandma would approve of her hot apple pie being involved in a mob shoot out?  All I can say is, Tommy Guns & Baseball Bats smells good enough to eat. The marshmallow fluff, nutmeg, and warm brown sugar combine nicely, and the thick formula feels extremely moisturizing. You wouldn’t think such a violent name could produce such a calming aroma.

 Hair Products

“Hollywood Dreams” – Shampoo Bar

FCS Hollywood Dreams Shampoo Bar

It’s not always what it seems. Imagine that!! Fall is in the (h)air!!

Brown sugar dusted graham crackers, fresh churned apple butter, sprinkled with nuts and a hint of maple.

  “American Royalty” – Pomade

FCS American Royalty Pomade

Happy Birthday, Mr. President!

Rose Milk, thick honey and warming tobacco blossom wrapped with caramel and notes of mandarin.

.You can’t have Old Hollywood glam without gorgeous hair. Perhaps this is why FCS included two hair products in their Fall box. I’ve never tried a shampoo bar before, but I really liked Hollywood Dreams. It lathers very well, and the scent is divine. I can smell the autumn goodness every time I am near the bar. If I could find a candle with this aroma for fall, I would be in heaven.

The other new hair product sampled in the Fall box was the American Royalty pomade. With my long hair I don’t use pomade, so I haven’t tried this product. I will probably be passing it on to someone who can use it. As for the scent, it is very manly. You really notice the notes of tobacco blossom, honey, and caramel. I don’t know if Cary Grant smoked cigars, but I kind of imagine he would have smelled like this pomade.

 Unique Additions

 “Famous” –  Wax Tart

FSC Wax Tart

You’re a star – at least to us!

Warm amber, wild orchid, fluttering white cotton, sundried herbs.

 “Pearls & Girls”– Perfume Oil

FCS Pearls & Girls Perfume Oil

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but he always wants to give me a pearl necklace. Oh Well!

Crushed and distilled vanilla creeping with wild jasmine and a splash of juicy pear.

As I mentioned in my previous Fortune Cookie Soap Box Reviews, the company has been adding some new items to the boxes, as well as changing up the presentation of some of those newer products. This quarter was no exception. In the past few boxes, FCS has been including a perfume oil, and each time the packaging on these oils has improved. This quarter Pearls & Girls came in a refillable perfume bottle, which I love. I wasn’t too surprised by this new packaging, as they had hinted at on their Facebook page a few months ago. I’ll leave my thoughts about the naughty description to myself, and just focus on the fragrance itself, which it is perfect for fall. The vanilla, jasmine, and juicy pear work really well together.

The wax tart is a new product to me, but I believe FCS has included these before. I really like when they include something not bath or body related, and I especially love candles, or candle type items, for fall. Famous does have a light scent, which I think works great to help ease you into the season. When ever I burn it, it helps to remind me it can’t be over 90 degrees forever, or at least I hope not.

Bottom line: While this wasn’t my favorite Fortune Cookie Soap Box, yes I’m still pouting about the no fairytale theme, it is still one of my favorite box subscriptions. $19.99 a quarter for eight samples in full, deluxe, and mini sizes, along with a $10 off coupon to use on full size items, is a great deal. And as I say each time I write this review, if you haven’t checked out Fortune Cookie Soap for their Soap Box or array of products, you definitely should.

Fall boxes are sold out, but there’s still time to sign-up for the winter box. I wonder what adventure we’ll go on next.
