Soniclear Elite

Sonic cleansing systems are all the rage these days. If you’ve used one, you know they are no gimic; they actually deliver on their promise to gently exfoliate and cleanse skin. Additionally, the sonic wave technology helps to stimulate circulation, which may improve your skin’s texture. And as you know, the older we get, the more help we need in that area.

One of the downsides of these sonic systems, besides the price, is that the cleansing brushes are a haven for bacteria. Most systems require you to replace your brushes every three months, depending on how much you use them. Enter the new Michael Todd soniclear elite™ Antimicrobial Face+Body Sonic Cleansing System with C-Boost™ Collagen Technology, $159.

Billed as the world’s first antimicrobial sonic cleansing system, the soniclear elite, features the built-in LIFE antimicrobial product protection, which ensures your brushes stay cleaner and fresher longer. In fact, brushes treated with the LIFE protection were clinically proven to reduce 99.9% of bacteria after 24 hours, as compared to the untreated control brush group. This technology also prolongs the lifespan of your brushes, from three months to six. Essentially, you only have to replace them twice a year, which is a savings of $50. Not a bad deal.

I’ve only tried one other sonic cleansing system before testing out the soniclear elite. I was very curious to see how the two compared to each other.

  • 1 Charging Cradle
  • 1 Facial Brush Head With Cover
  • 1 Body Brush Head With Cover

  • Sonic powered sweeping motion stays within safe range of natural elasticity

Two things really intrigued me about the soniclear elite; the body brush and the C-Boost Collagen technology. Activated by pressing the C-Boost button on the handle, this technology delivers a massage to your skin to help improve texture and plumpness.

Benefits of C-Boost:

  • Clinically validated to improve the appearance of fine lines by 84% in 8 weeks
  • Clinically validated to improve skin firmness by 70% in 8 weeks
  • Clinically validated to improve skin texture by 91% in 8 weeks

I’ve only been using my soniclear elite for a few weeks, so I can’t attest to seeing any difference in my skin’s texture. However, I do enjoy the massage and feel like it is helping my skin.

Besides enjoying the collagen boosting massage, I also really like the size and texture of the brush, as well as the grip on the handle. The brush is soft and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin, while the rubber grip eliminates any chance of me dropping my soniclear elite while I’m using it in the shower or at the sink.

Soniclear Elite Face and Body Brushes

Left: Body Brush; Right: Face Brush

My only compliant with this system is the body brush. Color me not impressed. Each time I used the body brush, my skin never felt clean or exfoliated. I didn’t enjoy the experience at all. I felt like I needed to go back and use my loofah sponge to get the clean sensation my usual shower gives me. I may try using the body brush when I do my dry brushing, as I think the C-Boost would improve the process, but I won’t be using it in the shower again.

 Soniclear Charging

Additionally, while I do like the charging/storage cradle, I wish the it was a tad bit smaller. I think it would make storage easier, but that is merely my personal opinion.

Bottom Line: At $159, the Michael Todd soniclear elite is definitely an investment. However, with the microbial and C-Boost technologies, two brushes, 5-year warranty, and other features and benefits, it has definite advantages over its competitors. Plus, there are other accessories you can buy, such the pedi treatment head, handle extender, or shower caddy, which makes it a new skincare tool worth checking out.
