“For makeup artist Rob Scheppy, beguiling beauty starts with basics – it’s what you do with them that counts. Stocked with go-to neutrals in matte and shimmer pairings, his exclusive ‘Tini Beauty eye color palette lets you be the artist. Wear these silky, blendable, crease-resistant powders alone or layered, wet or dry, to create looks from sultry, classic to cutting-edge.”

‘Tini Beauty recently teamed up with celebrity makeup artist Rob Scheppy to launch an exclusive palette for Spring, featuring 4 matte and 4 shimmer eyeshadows.

I must confess when I first received this palette, I wondered, “Who is Rob Scheppy?” I assumed he must be some kind of makeup guru, but beyond that I was clueless. Apparently he is most famous for creating Kim Kardashian’s famous smokey eye, and since I don’t follow the Kardashians, I’m also not familiar with this signature look.

The Palette

One of my favorite things about the Rob Scheppy Eye Shadow Palette, $39.50, is the packaging. It’s sleek, compact, and even comes with a nice size mirror for easy application on-the-go. With eight shadows inside, it is hard to believe that the palette only measures 6 inches long, and a little less than ½ inch wide. You can easily slip it in your purse, keep it in your desk at work, or slide it in your travel makeup bag.

The Shadows

As I mentioned above, the palette comes with 8-pressed powder eyeshadows, 4 matte and 4 shimmer, which can be used wet or dry.

What I really love about these shadows is how the shimmers and mattes seemed to be paired perfectly for each other. Each shimmer seems to compliment each matte, making it easy to create looks for almost every occasion. I was able to create at least three different looks by just simply applying one of the lighter shades (White Russian or Pearl Fizz) all over my lid, and then pairing it with two of the other six shades, such as Cinnamon-tini and Rose Champagne.

The first two shades, White Russian and Pearl Fizz, can be used for all over the lid or as highlighter shades. I like that you have two different options, with one being more white and creamy, and the other being more of a beige-peach shimmer. I think it is great when palettes give you that option.

By far, the matte shades are the best shadows in this palette. In addition to being perfectly pigmented, they apply and blend easily. These are definitely my favorite shadows of the eight, especially Pavlova, which not only allows you to create an on trend brown smokey eye, but also is the perfect transition shade. I found myself going back to this shade over and over again whenever I used this palette.

Unfortunately, the shimmer shades were a fail for me. They have a lot of glitter in them, and that glitter gets everywhere. I had so much fallout, and it became a bit of a challenge to remove the glitter from my checks, nose, and other parts of my face. I also don’t feel like these shadows deliver on the shimmer. Instead, they seem to be more of lighter shade or similar version of their matte counterparts. I also didn’t notice any difference in texture or effect, among any of the shadows, when I used them wet or dry, which was also disappointing.

Bottom Line: Even though the packaging of the Rob Scheppy Eye Shadow Palette is modern and sleek, and the matte shadows are creamy, pigmented, and blendable, I don’t think it merits a price point of $39.50. Maybe if the shimmer shades had less glitter fallout, and truly applied as shimmers, I would be more open to spending almost forty dollars on an eight-shadow palette.

However, I think they are other high quality matte/shimmer palettes available that contain a lot more shadows, along with other little extras, for around or little above the price point of this palette.

  1. It’s almost odd that mattes are better than the shimmers, because it’s usually vice versa in most palettes. But, it’s always hard to find a good matte formula, so at least you got these to work for you 🙂

  2. I like the slim packaging of this! This would be so easy to travel with!

  3. The shades are gorgeous! I don’t like glitter fall out tho =

    • Me neither. I think they should have left the glitter out, and worked on making the shimmers more shimmery.

Bummer about the shimmers! The mattes look promising though!

  6. With so many choices now for neutral palettes, companies really have to be on point with formula and colors to merit the same price point as the heavy hitters.

  7. Thanks for sharing! So cute!

  8. Oh bummer! Too bad about the glitter fallout. I love the concept of the matte/shimmer pairs.

  12. Price aside, this is a palette I would take on a short trip because I could make just about any type of look I wear with it.
