Born This Way ($39) is the brand spankin’ new foundation from Too Faced Cosmetics. I wasn’t even looking for a new foundation, but the tagline grabbed me like a pit bull and wouldn’t let go–“this oil free foundation masterfully diffuses the line between makeup and skin. Coverage so undetectable and skin so naturally radiant, they’ll think you were Born This Way”

Coverage that’s undetectable and naturally radiant? YES, please! When I got the email announcing the launch, I immediately ordered. There are 12 shades available: I ordered Nude  & to my surprise it’s a perfect match! I can’t believe my luck! Nude is described as “light with pink-neutral undertones” and I can honestly say I haven’t had such a good match in many, many moons. That really gives me confidence in Too Faced descriptions. Accurate descriptions are rare and can be very frustrating when shopping online.

The Nudeshade blends so well, you can't even see it on my skin!

Born This Way has some unusual ingredients:

  • Coconut Water to naturally replenish moisture level
  • Alpine Rose to brighten the skin’s appearance and promote elasticity
  • Hyaluronic Acid for a smoother, more youthful appearance. Hyaluronic acid is also fabulous for adding moisture.

The consistency is juuuust right: not too thin or watery and not too thick. This is one foundation that WILL NOT look cakey. That’s great news for us over 40 gals. The coverage is simply phenomenal. It provides enough coverage to hide my imperfections but still lets my freckles show through. It is so lightweight I don’t feel like I’m wearing anything. I used my favorite Murad primer, Invisiblur Perfecting Shield SPF 30 under Born This Way (review here). That is one improvement that Born This Way could stand–to include SPF. That said, I prefer to use a separate sunscreen for better protection anyway.

Where Too Faced Born This Way really excels is the coverage and the ultimate natural look. For me, it is medium coverage making it ideal for the warmer months. With a few exceptions, BB & CC creams do not provide enough coverage for this old lady! Born This Way is the perfect blend of a full-medium coverage foundation and a BB cream. The satin finish is beautiful.  This picture was taken on a 100° day so my face is a little “dewy.”

I also like the packaging and appreciate the pump bottle.

Bottom Line: Too Faced Born This Way is my new holy grail foundation! It has the BEST coverage I’ve ever encountered, has a wonderful color selection and  looks extremely natural. It warms my makeup soul to be able to tell you that Too Faced Born This Way Foundation lives up to the advertising! I will definitely repurchase.
