Review: Shiseido’s Benefiance Wrinkle Resist24 Eye Contour Cream

by Staff Writer: Patty

Eye creams are very high on my list of products that I love and adore and couldn’t imagine living without. As a result, I own SEVERAL. If a cosmetic or skincare line offers me my choice of skincare samples, my answer is more often than not “eye cream”! In addition to my love for eye creams, I unfortunately have an affinity for high-end eye creams. There are a lot of products that I could recommend in a the drugstore price range, but eye cream will never be one of them. You definitely get what you pay for here. I’m not saying that spending a lot of money guarantees an excellent eye cream, but more often than not they are fantastic.
Shiseido’s Benefiance Wrinkle Resist24 Eye Contour Cream is a luxurious, highly-emollient eye cream.  I have found that this one doesn’t work well for me during the day IF I’m applying makeup that day (I work from home, so I’m barefaced quite often).  I’ve been using this exclusively at night and also to my 5:30 am workouts.  There is something soothing about this eye cream that I love.  My under eye area is very sensitive and perspiration from my early morning workouts stings this delicate area.  I find that by applying this before I leave the house helps with the stinging sensation.

Shiseido’s website has this to say about this product (the entire ingredient list couldn’t be found on-line):

An ultra-rich, age-defying cream that visibly improves the appearance of all types of eye-area wrinkles from inner corner creases and under eye wrinkles to crow’s feet, lid creases and under eye vertical lines. The WrinkleResist24 signature ingredients prevent future wrinkles and repair existing wrinkles.
  • Contains Burnet Extract, to revitalize cells and counteract loss of firmness.
  • Developed with advanced Shiseido technology and ingredients including Super Bio Hyaluronic Acid N for intense moisture and Hydroxyproline to promote collagen production.
I am 48 years old and I do have some lines around my eyes. I live in Southern California which is a warm/hot, dry climate. My undereye area tends to be sensitive and screams for moisture. This area is also sensitive, so an eye cream that doesn’t make me tear is key for me. I’ve been disappointed by many eye creams that feel great on, but a few minutes after application, my sensitive eyes start to water thereby stinging my sensitive under eye area.
This eye cream is very moisturizing, highly emollient and probably most suitable for an aging eye.  I think if I were still in my 30’s, the emollient level wouldn’t have appealed to me.  But as I get older, I find this area is getting thinner and thinner and just screams for moisture.  I wake up looking more refreshed and the lines around my eyes appear softer and more diffused.
This retails for $55USD for .51oz.  As I stated in my review of Laura Mercier’s Tone Perfecting Eye Gel Creme, I do believe you get what you pay for with eye creams.  I prefer a higher end eye cream over a drugstore option, and this one is priced about mid-range for a department store line.
One final note, there is a mild-to-moderate scent to this product that might be problematic for some.  It doesn’t irritate my eyes and the scent doesn’t bother me, but if this is something that might cause you a reaction, check out the Shiseido counter for a sample first.
