Splurge vs Steal Concealers

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a Splurge vs. Steal post and it’s long overdue. This is the first I can remember where the splurge wins!

First let’s talk about the steal-L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer ($8.95).

True Match Super Blendable Concealer has been repackaged as a crayon instead of a tube with a doe foot applicator. There are six shades available, I purchased light/medium with a cool undertone. The crayon is nice because you can use the tip in the corners of the eye and the side of the crayon for larger areas. It is surprisingly soft and creamy and blends well. However, my problem with this not-quite-good-enough concealer is that it doesn’t last. I also found it didn’t work for larger areas, it didn’t really hide/conceal anything.

bareMinerals debuted their Color Correcting Concealer ($20) this fall and I have been using it every day since. It is superb –rich but lightweight, creamy but gives full coverage. No matter what you’ve got to hide, bareMinerals SPF 20 Correcting Concealer has you covered.

The formula contains:

  • Titanium Dioxide for natural SPF 20 protection
  • Lemon peel extract helps to brighten and decrease the appearance of dark spots and discoloration over time
  • Copper provides skin nourishing benefits

I love the smooth über creamy texture of this concealer—when your fingers touch the pan, it melts like buttah!  It works equally as well with a concealer brush as well as fingers. It is amazing for covering redness and dark spots and extremely hydrating for the under eye area. The best part though? It NEVER looks cakey!

bareMinerals Color Correcting Concealer is available in 8 shades.

Let’s review!

L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Crayon Concealer

  • Soft, creamy texture
  • $8.95

  • Wears off quickly
  • 6 shades vs. 8 shades
  • Does not conceal as well as I would like

bareMinerals Color Correcting Concealer

  • Soft,  creamy, buttery texture
  • Blends easily
  • SPF 20
  • 8 shades vs. 6 shades
  • Covers very well without ever looking cakey

Bottom Line: I will gladly pay twice the price for twice the performance! bareMinerals has and SPF of 20 and is very hydrating. A Winner in my opinion!!

  1. I found the L’Oreal True Match crayon difficult to blend. I use concealer primarily to cover red spots on my cheeks. For that purpose, I use the new Cover Girl & Olay stick concealer – it blends seamlessly.

  2. I definitely need to try the BM concealer. Hmmmm, wonder if I can use my ULTA 20% off coupon? That would be great!
How’s the lasting power Cindy? My skin is so dry this winter I’m having trouble finding something creamy AND long lasting to cover my redness and acne scars.

    • The BM concealer lasts all day on me. If you want extra hydration, mix it with your eye cream–that will cut down on the lasting power though. Good luck!
