Suva Beauty Block Party and HydraFX liner

I’m back with part two of my Suva Beauty review. Last time I shared my thoughts on their hydrating & pigmented Moisture Matte Liquid Lipsticks. Today, we’re moving from lips to eyes with their Block Party Palette, $30, and Hydra Liners/FX, $12.

Block Party Palette

The Limited-Edition Block Party palette gives me major 80s vibes. Being a child of the 80s, I love the retro feel. It brings me back to the days where it was all about day glow and neon. Even the packaging of this palette screams fun, with its holographic cover and illustrations.

Once you open it up, you’ll find a mix of buttery, light-reflecting shimmers and full saturated matte shadows. All ten shadows feature a vegan and gluten friendly formula that is also cruelty-free. In addition, there are no parabens, sulfates or phthalates in the palette.

I have mixed feelings about the Block Party Palette. While I’m very impressed with the shimmers, the mattes didn’t perform as expected. I had some trouble working with the shadows and found the color payoff didn’t match the intensity of the pans.

Dancing Shoes, Milkshake, and Lemonade either lacked in pigmentation or blended out too easily. I tried to build them, but never reached the intensity I was hoping to achieve. I also found the mattes didn’t blend well with the shimmers. Instead, they would muddy them up.

In order to create a brighter yellow on my lids (second look), I had to blend Lemonade with Nachos and Flash Mob. Otherwise, the color was very bland and dull.  I also struggled with building up Dancing Shoes and keeping it on my lids. It tended to blend or wipe away as I worked with it. After several hours of wear, I noticed Dancing Shoes had faded off my eyes.

Regardless, I did enjoy getting creative with my eye looks. It was a fun, colorful challenge. Of the looks I created, the first one, using Popsicle, Milkshake, Drunk Love, Mix Tape, and Flash Mob, is my favorite. I really like the blend of purple and pink with the pop of teal.

Hydra Liners/FX

In addition to trying out the Block Party Palette, I also tested Suva Beauty’s Hydra Liners/FX. The brand was kind of enough send me Grape Soda, Freezie, and Tracksuit. If you like intense pigmentation, you will love Suva’s Hydra Liners. Not only do they have great color payoff, but they are also smudge-proof and transfer resistant. And like the palette, Hydra Liners are gluten and vegan-friendly.

Of the three, Grape Soda and Freezie are my favorites. I love a good purple and teal liner. You can easily incorporate them into a bold eye look or wear them on their own. I did have trouble working with Tracksuit. It kept blending off on my eyes, especially the lower lash line. The more I tried to fix it, the more it would disappear.

Suva Beauty Block Party Palette Hydra Liners

The Hydra Liners/FX do come with a bit of a learning curve. They are meant to be used wet. In other words, you have to add water to them to activate the formula. You can’t apply them dry as the color will not stick to your brush. This is a very unique concept, which does help color payoff and wear time. Additionally, when you place Grape Soda and Tracksuit under a blacklight, they glow. I don’t have a blacklight, so I wasn’t able to test this out. I’m including a picture of the effect from the Suva Beauty website to give you an idea of how it works.

Suva Beauty Block Party Look

Bottom Line: The Suva Beauty Block Party Palette is a fun way to indulge your inner 80s child. Although the shimmers perform well, the mattes didn’t perform as well as I would hope. Of the two items I tried, I would recommend the Hydra Liners over the palette. Their unique formula delivers on color payoff and wear time.

  1. These look like so much fun! I usually don’t wear such bright colors, but I’ve been feeling bold lately. This might have to be a purchase soon. 😀

  2. I love bright colors so you already know I love that palette!
