Tarte The Lip Sculptor Double Ended Lipstick & Gloss For a Perfectly Contoured Pout!

Purchased by me

This review is waaaay overdue given my love for Tarte The Lip Sculptor Double Ended Lipstick & Gloss ($24). Wow, that’s a mouth full! Why do brands make their products with such looooong names?? Anywho, this isn’t a new product, it was launched as part of the Double Duty Collection, and an Ulta Beauty exclusive in 2016. I didn’t get around to trying it until much later, and then this review is later still. I recently purchased a mini duo and it reignited my love of this fabulous product so I decided to get my butt in gear and tell you about it!

Anywho, the LSDELG (that’s what I’m calling it), provides the ideal mix of a creamy lipstick with a shiny gloss in one product to create the perfect lip. I love lipstick, but more often than not I find myself adding a gloss on top for the glossy texture and added shine. Tarte’s Tarte The Lip Sculptor Double Ended Lipstick & Gloss is the best of both worlds and allows for you to create and customize lots of different combinations and looks. Wear the lipstick alone, gloss alone or layer them like I do. Mix different shades and textures to your delight!

The lipstick formula is pretty perfect. It’s very moist and creamy and nicely pigmented with a beautiful finish. There is mo shimmer, but a really pretty sheen that keeps it from being flat. It’s extremely comfortable to wear and lasts at least five hours on me. The gloss side has really nice pigmentation with a great color pay off making it wearable on its own. It doesn’t feel sticky or tacky and wears for almost as long as the lipstick. Both the gloss and lipstick contain coconut oil, maracuja, and Vitamin E for maximum hydration. They are also free of nasty parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, and gluten. There is a light vanilla scent that dissipates quickly so I don’t think it would bother most people. Good news for us over 40 beauties, there is no sinking into lip lines or feathering!

The first color I chose was Voltage, a pinky peach which is also my go-to color. The lipstick is pinky peach rose and the gloss has a bit of mauve in it so it deepens the shade. I love this shade and wear it to work all the time.

I found a great bargain on the tarte website: this limited edition lip treats lip sculptor duo for only $12! The set includes two mini lip sculptor duos in VIP and Life. Life lipstick is s pretty peach and the gloss is a pale nude. The combo results in a pretty pale peachy lip perfect for a natural look or to compliment a smoky eye. I know this sounds weird but I’ve been searching for a true peach lippie that doesn’t make me look like a zombie and I finally found it! I even asked a salesperson at Ulta and she couldn’t find anything–she kept showing me pinks and oranges and I walked out empty handed. If only she had shown me Life! I know I’m going to wear this all summer.

VIP is described a cool nude but I don’t agree. To my eye, the lipstick looks like browned rose with tiny bit of a pink undertone. The gloss is dusty browned rose.

There are 16 duos available with a good selection of nudes, berries, and rich, deep shades. The packaging is quite nice: a gold barrel houses the lipstick and on the other end, and clear is where the gloss lives. I love the idea of having a lipstick and gloss in one tube–it makes traveling super easy. The limited edition set is mini-sized and even better for traveling. I love the small size–I can’t remember the last time I used up an entire tube of lipstick so it’s perfect for me. It is also a great way to try the product with half the investment. I wish Tarte would make more of these duos!

When you consider that you get three looks in one package, the $24 price seems fairly reasonable. Now that I have three shades I can create tons of combinations! I have Treat (dusty rose), Sass (mauve) and Cartwheel (coral) on my wishlist! Just like Lays potato chips, I bet you can’t stop at just one!

Bottom Line: these color-rich, creamy, moisturizing lipsticks and glosses provide for a variety of looks while performing beautifully. If I was stranded on a desert island, and could only take one lipstick and gloss with me, I would choose the Tarte Lip Sculptor Double Ended Lipstick & Gloss in a heartbeat! Highly recommended!

These are fun! I like adding complementary gloss to lipstick sometimes and this takes the guess work out of the complement 🙂

I am really liking those shades. I like colors that don’t stand out TOO much and these fit the bill.

  4. Lol that’s actually a shorter name than the full names of the large IT Cosmetics eye palettes! I love how VIP looks on you.

  5. I love these so much! Tarte is one of the brands I am allergic too and it’s annoying because they are cruelty free. I love Voltage on you, it’s a great color
