Purchased by me

I need to apologize to you beauties, because this was one of the first fall makeup items I purchased and it’s taken me this long to review it. Tarte’s Energy Noir Eye and Cheek Palette ($38) has everything you need for a beautiful fall look in one pretty palette. If you like subtle, classy color this is for you AND it’s kind to us over 40 beauties.

The Energy Noir Eye and Cheek Palette contains six eyeshadows, two eyeshadow liners, a blush, highlighter and step-by-step guide. All the products feature Tarte’s  super-ingredient Amazonian clay. It is predominantly cool toned with a mix of matte and shimmery shades. With a few exceptions, they all have a nice buttery texture and are easy to use. I love Unearthed, the blush and Crystal Spark, a lovely warm highlighter.

The palette contains:

  • Full Moon – is a matte cool beige and is slightly powdery. Don’t press your brush in the pan too hard or you will get powder kicking up. It’s a beautiful and very versatile shade that will get use everyday.
  • Charged Up – is a warm medium taupe with a gorgeous shimmery finish that is NOT glittery., It is my second favorite shade in the palette. It applies and blends beautifully.
  • Dark Drive – is a deep, deep matte brown with a very, very subtle mauve undertone. It is not as easy to blend as the others and takes a little extra work to apply.
  • Stone Unturned – is a cool matte fawn brown that has a nice texture and makes a great transition shade.
  • Up Too Slate – is a gorgeous shimmery light mauve. It has great pigmentation, a smooth creamy texture and applies like a dream. My favorite shade in the palette.
  • Misty Mauve – is a cool matte soft mauve that plays well with the other shades in the palette. I like to pair it with the two shimmery shades, Charged Up and Up Too Slate. This is also a great transition color.
  • Power Plum – is a deep matte eggplant that is perfect for lining. I found it applies kind of patchy though so I will only use it for liner. To be honest, I’m not sure if the bottom two eyeshadow shades are supposed to only be used for lining but with their texture and depth, that’s what I assume. I could be wrong, it happens.
  • Lunar Eclipse – is a deep matte black. Again, I will only use for a liner. This and Power Plum are best used wet.
  • Unearthed – is a beautiful matte peachy rose. The texture is quite hard; I had to layer to get the color I wanted. It’s very natural looking and universally flattering, a great choice for this palette.
  • Crystal Spark – is a warm, peachy beige with a metallic finish. I like to use this as a highlighter as opposed to an eyeshadow.

For this look I used Full Moon on the brow bone, Up Too Slate on the lid, Misty Mauve in the crease, Lunar Eclipse to line smudged into upper lash line, and Power Plum to line lower lash line.

Bottom Line: the Tarte Energy Noir Eye and Cheek Palette is great for sultry and natural looks. The shadows blend easily, have good lasting power and work very well together. Unearthed blush is a winner and will work for everyone. Teh palette transitions easily from day to night.

  2. I love the names of those colors 🙂 Don’t think I need another palette right now, but I’ve always liked browsing through tarte releases.

I have to admit that when I first saw the palette i wasn’t impressed but I love how they actually look on your skin.

  4. I’ve read mixed reviews on this palette – the blush doesn’t seem to live up to normal Tarte amazingness. I really love these kinds of colors, so I may end up getting it at some point, though.

    • I like the blush, but I have had tarte palettes where the blush texture was very hard and therefore hard to use. Mine was fine in this palette.

  5. The colors are nice, but it isn’t a palette I’d run for.

  6. This palette is SO beautiful!

  7. I like the mix of colors!

  8. I’ve come so close to buying this and never pushed the button. Your swatches are very tempting though.

  11. I have this palette and I love the quality but I feel like the shades are all a little too similar. I wish there was more variety!

  12. Love it, so fall appropriate!

  13. I’m so glad I didn’t pass on this palette, I love it.

  14. This is a very pretty set.
