The LORAC Resort Eye and Cheek Palette Proves to be Elusive

Purchased by me

Does the LORAC Resort Eye and Cheek Palette really exist? I was beginning to think it was an urban myth like Bigfoot or the Bermuda Triangle. It came out as an online Nordstrom exclusive in February  for the fabulous price of $20 was sold out in a matter of hours. I missed it, as did so many others I started to think maybe Bigfoot kept it for a much needed makeover. When you think about it, it makes sense. Nordstrom’s flagship store and buying offices are in the Pacific Northwest where Bigfoot resides. See the connection? Okay, maybe that’s just me.

Anywho, when it showed up a few weeks ago on Hautelook for only $15, I jumped on it like a Kardashian on an athlete and I’m so glad I did. I find it strange that the Resort Eye and Cheek Palette is touted as limited edition for 2015 yet I have heard virtually nothing about it and it’s not on the LORAC website. Cue Twilight Zone music.

Whether you pay $15 or $10, the LORAC Resort Palette is worth every penny. It has six eyeshadows in a mix of matte and shimmer, two blushes, a bronzer and a highlighter. If you paid $15 like I did, that’s only $1.66 each! I haz math skillz yo!

On to the good stuff! The shades are not named so I will do my best to describe them:

  • Highlighter – a shimmery white with pink undertone
  • Eye shadow #1 – matte nude. It was hard to get an accurate pic because it blends into my skin tone so well
  • Eye shadow #2 – shimmery peachy pink
  • Eye shadow #3 – shimmery bronze/copper
  • Blush- neutral matte pink

All these shadows are smooth, buttery, pigmented and finely milled. Of course I love the two shimmer shades as they are not glittery or have any fallout making them perfect for over 40 eyelids. I would call them more of a satin shimmer—very wearable. The peachy shade is lovely on the lid; it really brightens up the eye. The copper shade is to-die-for and works well in the crease, the lid or under the lower lash line. The highlighter is lovely too, it isn’t too frosty but rather subtle as can be used to highlight cheek bones, brow bones, and even as an all over face powder. The matte blush did kick up some powder “smoke” but I loved how natural it looked on my cheeks. I’m not sure it would work on darker skin though, I had to apply with a heavier hand than I usually do.

 Second row:

  • Eye shadow #4 – matte black with a teeny bit of sparkle.
  • Eye shadow #5 – matte medium fawn brown
  • Eye shadow #6 – olive green shimmer with gold. OMG this is stunning! The best in the palette!
  • Blush – matte reddish plum
  • Bronzer – matte brown

Thankfully the black and brown matte shades are not stiff or hard like some matte shades and they are not too dark or harsh for over 40 eyes. The texture was just as silky as the shimmer shades which I appreciate. The olive green shade has gold shimmer and is simply stunning! I am just getting into green eye shadows– I know! what took me so long? Anywho, this one brings out the green flecks in my eyes and it so fun to wear. The blush is a matte plumish shade—can you say Marsala? It is more pigmented than the light pink and looks nice even on my warm skin. The bronzer appears darker in the pan than translates to the skin. I happen to love this because it’s hard to find a bronzer for pale skin that doesn’t look muddy. That said, it may not be suitable for darker skin.

The packaging is so pretty with the mosaic like design and touches of gold. It reminds me of the pretty tile around a pool. It IS the resort palette so maybe that was what LORAC was going for? To me, it also has a laid-back boho vibe I love. It is heavy cardboard so I don’t know if I would let it roll around in a makeup bag, but it taken care of properly I can see this being a great travel palette that allows you to create a lot of different looks. No brushes are included but there is a good sized mirror.

Bottom Line: I’m sure the LORAC Resort Palette will make its’ way back to Hautelook soon and when it does, grab it before Bigfoot gets his hairy hands on it! This is a spectacular bargain for a very nice palette that I know I get a lot of use from!

  1. I love the packaging of this palette, and I thought long and hard about buying it when it was introduced at Nordstrom for $20 and then on Hautelook. I thought the shades were too similar to palettes I already own, but now I wish I had it even for the blushes alone, lol. And the green gold is stunning and I have nothing like it. What was I thinking!

  14. When I saw Noveau Cheap talk about how this palette was going to be on Hautelook, I jumped on it, too. Also picked up a couple of cream liners from Lorac. I haven’t used it yet, but now I need to. That olive green, and the copper and rose gold are just gorgeous.
