This week our Top 10 Bloggers are talking primers. Primers are an over 40 woman’s secret weapon and you should be using one! Primers create a smooth canvas for application and help bind makeup to the skin for longer wear throughout the day. Just as you would prime a canvas for a beautiful finish on a painting, a face primer creates a smooth canvas for your makeup. I can think of nothing else that makes such a dramatic difference.
There are face primers, eye shadow primers, lip primers and mascara primers. I use them all and as I’ve gotten older, they are no longer optional in my makeup arsenal. I’ve tried eleventy-billion primers and these are the ones I rely on to help me fight the battle of aging.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer ($52) very expensive but worth it! Virtually every time I use this, I get compliments on my skin–it’s the closest to flawless skin I’ll ever get. Surprising lightweight, it spreads well, really fills in lines and pores does a great job of  “grabbing” foundation. It has an SPF of 15 and I love the satin finish. Best for: oily skin and wrinkles.

Mally Poreless Face Defender ($40) – a clear gel/powder, this stuff is rocks! It really does make pores disappear– but be careful and do NOT use too much. On the first attempt I used my fingers to apply and it was a disaster–use the sponge that comes with the compact for the perfect application. I’m convinced this was not created by Mally Roncal, but by Criss Angel because not only does it make pores vanish but it transforms from a gel to a powder.Best for: making pores disappear
StriVectin Advanced Retinol Pore Refiner ($99) –  is a lightweight daily pore-minimizing lotion and anti- aging moisturizer with Retinol that delivers both instant and long-term visible pore reduction. Patented NIA-114™ technology nourishes the moisture barrier to provide visible age fighting efficacy as it limits the sensitivity common to Retinol use. The powerfully effective blend purifies and refines both skin tone and texture, while delivering superior age fighting benefits. Best for: mature skin
RoC Smooth  Perfexion Instant Line Corrector ($24.99)– RoC Smooth Perfexion Instant Line Corrector makes a huge difference in how my foundation performs and appears. It provides an ultra smooth canvas for foundation and adds much needed hydration to my dry skin. It feels smooth as velvet and fills in fine lines and pores wonderfully AND you can find it at the drugstore for under $30. Best for: mature skin
Reviva Labs Makeup Primer ($19.50) – another low cost option, this is the primer I keep going back to. Highly effective. this primer has Co-enzyme Q10 adding antioxidant protection. A little goes a loooong way. I saw a friend at the drug store recently and she commented that my skin looked great and asked if I had a new foundation. Nope, the only difference since the last time I saw her was Reviva makeup primer. ‘Nuff said? Best for: everyone

Too Faced Shadow Insurance ($20) – this soothing formula evens out the skin tone on your lids and smoothes crepey lines while securing a barrier between the oils of your skin and your makeup, so you never have to worry have fading or creasing. Excellent! Best for: everyone and especially for oily lids

Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion Anti-aging ($24) – this eye shadow primer has some high tech ingredients just for older eyes.  Dermaxyl® helps smooth the appearance of wrinkles; Kalpariane® plumps, firms, and hydrates skin as it improves suppleness and elasticity; and optical blurring pigments create a subtle, soft-focus effect that instantly wakes up tired eyes and minimizes the appearance of redness, crepiness, and other imperfections in 8 weeks. Best for: aging eyes
Too Faced Lip Insurance ($20) – apply this over the lips to promote suppleness and glides on smooth for maximum staying power. Your glosses and lip color will not feather, fade, or transfer even under the most lip-challenging conditions. The vitamin-E-enriched formula pampers lips while unique pigment binders protect lip colors from any pout imperfections.
Hourglass N0 28 Lip Treatment Oil ($42) – I’ve never tried this but my friend Phyrra loves it so that’s good enough for me! this highly advanced lip treatment oil has both short- and long-term benefits for the lips. The combination of powerful actives, essential oils, plant oils, and vitamins works on contact to condition lips, relieve dryness and chapping, and shield against environmental elements. In addition, three advanced active ingredients strengthen the moisture barrier; boost skin smoothness; and elevate the appearance of lip texture, shape, and volume.

I can’t wait to see what our bloggers favorite primers are. I always end up with something on my wishlist!
