This week our bloggers are talking about their picks for the Top 10 SPF Products. Please, please wear sunscreen and save your skin–you will not regret it. Click on the logos at the end of this post to see what the other bloggers choose as their favorites.

Because I want to help bring awareness, I feel compelled to share with you my story. I grew in Southern California during the “baby oil days”, I’m pretty fair and I’ve had my share of bad sunburns–once even a blistering one. Add to that the fact that I lived in Arizona for 10 years and then after moving back to the sunless Pacific Northwest, I was known as an occasional user of tanning beds.

Now that I’m older and wiser, I stay out of the sun when possible and/or use a high SPF sunscreen. I should be a prime example of What Not To Do. My body is covered in what used to be freckles and have now turned into brown blobs. Vanity aside, I have also had 5 basal cell carcinomas in the past few years. They have all been pre-cancerous but I still have had to endure the burn and scrape curettage method of prevention and that has left scars–especially on my delicate decolletage. I am now a HUGE proponent of self-tanners and I get a skin check every 6 months. I check myself more often and really watch for pink spots that get flakey and don’t heal or irregular moles and I want YOU to do the same!  Whether you’re at the beach or just sitting near a window in your office, applying sunscreen regularly is vital to maintaining healthy skin, and it can actually save your life.

Whether you’re frolicking in the sand, surf or backyard,  don’t forget: sunscreen is the absolute-must accessory. Yes, even when you are traveling via car. Did you know UVA rays can pass through glass windows and cloudy skies? This makes it all the more important to use effective sun protection every day, no matter what! Here are some of my favorites! 6868845_320x385 Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 45 – also available in SPF 30, 70 & 100.

Reasons why I love this:

  • It’s a dry spray!!!
  • Non-greasy–that’s what I always detested about sunscreens!
  • No white cast–I’m fair so this may not be the case for darker skin tones
  • Oil and PABA free
  • Water resistant–still remember to reapply!
  • Fresh scent

As I’ve aged my skin is more sensitive to the sun. If I am caught unexpectedly and not wearing sunscreen with no shade, I will get a heat rash, which are small itchy red bumps whenever my skin was exposed to the sun. My doctor told me my skin holds in heat longer than most people and Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch helps keep me bump free!

6811010_320x385 Ultra Sheer® Face + Body Stick Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 70 – this stick is great for getting ears, feet and hard to reach places. It’s Water resistant (80 minutes) Lightweight, fast absorbing  and Oil free, PABA free.

L’Oréal Paris Sublime Sun SPF 50+ Lotion  offers a high SPF of 50 that lasts on all day. If I’m swimming I need to apply every few hours of course.  This lotion is very liquidy, applies easily absorbs fast. What I like most is that after a minutes, it doesn’t feel like I am wearing sunscreen at all. It’s a great bargain too!

Coola Sport SPF30 Unscented Sunscreen Spray – Certified organic ingredients, check. Continuous spray, check. This Coola Sport Sunscreen has it all and more. Not only does if offer broad spectrum protection, but it’s also water resistant for up to 40 minutes, and goes on ultra sheer so I know it will never stain stain my clothes or my swimsuit. Plus, unlike other sunscreens it doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight and dry. Thanks to the anti-aging antioxidants my skin feels hydrated, moisturized, and protected from free radicals and the sun’s not-so-kind rays.

Coopertone ClearlySheer Sunny Faces Day Lotion SPF 30 – Finding a sunscreen for the sensitive skin on my face, that doesn’t break it out or cause dryness, can be a challenge. With the Coopertone ClearlySheer Sunny Faces Lotion, I don’t have to worry about either. The non-comedogenic formula is ideal for all skin types, even sensitive or acne prone. Plus, it leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth, and doesn’t have that strong sunscreen smell. Instead, it has a nice light citrus scent with a soft floral base, which I really love. What I love most about the Coppertone ClearlySheer Sunny Faces Lotion is that it absorbs quickly into my skin, so I can even get broad spectrum protection on days when I want to wear it under makeup.

For the Face: 19532 La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 (full size $29.99) – this ultra lightweight sunscreen is more of a serum. It instantly absorbs, is totally non-greasy and it’s clear so it leaves no whiteish cast.  The advanced formula features Cell-OX Shield XL, which is a combination of antioxidants and filters that protect against UV damage. It also provides a soft, matte finish over your complexion for a smooth and non-greasy feel. I absolutely love this and will definitely purchase a full size! 23376 HydroPeptide Solar Defense SPF 30 (full size $44) – HydroPeptide Solar Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 30 (formerly SPF Anti-wrinkle Skin Enhancing UV Protection) physically blocks 97% of UV rays that can cause sunburn and premature aging as it hydrates and rejuvenates your skin.this sunscreen is also lightweight and non-greasy. It has 30 SPF vs. the 60 of the La Roche-Posay. It it white but does not leave a cast and is more hydrating than La Roche-Posay.

Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector SPF 42 +++ – It is extremely lightweight–to the point of being runny. I shake the bottle and put a dab in the palm of my hand and then use my fingers to apply to my face. It’s takes very little product and absorbs immediately leaving my skin feeling silky NOT sticky. THE perfect sunscreen for combination or oily skin For Hair: nios-shield-spf-sunscreen-hair-conditioner_4 NIOS Shield Leave-In Conditioner  – Offers year-round color and texture protection with a light, natural hold combined with SPF 15 sunscreen. Vitamin E and B5 hydrate and nourish your hair, while the built-in SPF sunscreen protects hair color and texture and scalp sunburn. The Moroccan argan oil helps tame frizz and leaves a healthy, shiny glow. Love this!
