What’s Trending in Fall Hair and Nails!

Every season we get to reinvent ourselves. We can try out new makeup, new clothes, and of course new hair and nails. It’s a definite perk to being a girl, and yes sometimes I still like to think of myself as being a girl, minus the shrieking and drama. Although, I must say that a little bit of drama on my nails is always fun.

Fall Hair Trends

From braids to retro looks, fall trends are going in lots of new and old directions. Earlier this year, the topknot, sock bun, or messy bun look took center stage. It’s a trend that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere for fall either. The only change this fall, is you can now wear your bun low, high or more traditionally in the middle of your head, which all work well for almost any occasion.

Braids of all shapes and sizes, from fishtail to twists, are also a carry over from spring and summer. They can be integrated into a bun, worn loose and low, or as an accent to a half-up/half-down look. While I fully embrace the bun, I feel a little silly in braids, almost like I should be singing, “The hills are alive with the sound of music.” I prefer to shy away from braids, and go for a ponytail, especially the low ponytail, which is trendy, yet classic.

Glam

One fall trend I am thoroughly excited to try is the 60s/mod look. I don’t know what it is about the 60s, but I just find it unbelievably glam. It’s retro, yet modern, and definitely fun. Wearing this trend is all about big hair, but not tacky 80s hair. Instead, it is big in the back, while being very simple and sleek. Not matter what length your hair is you can find a way to make the 60s trend work for you.

runway

Another trend that seemed to be popping up on the runway during fashion week was the center part. Designers integrated the center part in many ways, from sleek and severe, to loose and flowing. The center part can be worn when your hair is down, or you can also incorporate it into an updo. Channeling the 70s, I think I spent all four years wearing long straight hair parted in the center. Let’s face it, it works for everyone!

beachy

Summer may be over, but beachy, wavy hair is still sticking around. The look has gotten a bit of a fall makeover by moving into more of a bohemian style. The waves are looser, less structured, and more on the subtle side.

NAIL TRENDS!

We’ve covered hair and makeup here, now let’s talk about nails. Besides shopping for shoes, I love changing up my nails. I find giving myself a weekly manicure to be relaxing, and a fun way to pamper myself. Dark colors are a personal favorite of mine, and fall is the perfect season for adding them to my nail repertoire.

This fall, vampy colors aren’t just for the lips, you can also add them to your nails. You can go with the traditional berry reds, or change it up with some dark purples, browns, or even blues.  Nudes are also big this year, especially in beige, with a hint of peach under tones.

Every season there is talk about nail art going away, but just like in seasons past, nail art is still in play.  On trend for fall is the half moon manicure, which can be worn using a nude polish at the bottom, your own natural nail, or with a more traditional gold or bright color.

Another popular fall nail look is the horizontal or diagonal manicure. You can use two or three colors, for a gradient look, depending on how dramatic you want to go with the manicure.  If the diagonal manicure is a little too bold, you can use simple lines, in an accent color, to add just a slight bit of pop or design.

This fancy mani by The Mercurial Magpie is so creative and the colors are ultra dramatic!

Glitter and bejeweled nails are also on trend for fall. You can add the glitter over nude or natural nails, or to just one nail for an accent. During some fashion week shows you could spot very ornate jeweled nails, either on just one accent nail or in a half moon manicure.

  5. I actually like braids, but they’re hard to see in my dark, curly hair. It would take me forever (or a blowout bar) to get the straight, middle part hair.. and I might end up looking like a triangle! lol. I do love wearing a low, messy bun, though. Great nail looks, too! Some of my fave bloggers. 🙂
