While snow and dry winter weather is great for skiers and snowboarders, those of us who are not snow bunnies get dry, itchy and flaky skin. Even though it’s cold outside my little dog Addy still needs her daily walk so I need a powerful winter skincare routine to keep my skin moisturized and smooth while spending hours in the cold. Just yesterday it snowed 8 inches so winter rages on where I live.

My legs, hands and feet are extremely dry. Cold, wind, dry air and constant washing of my hands have made my skin as dry as a holiday fruitcake. It’s uncomfortable and not cute. The following products are what I’ve found to be my winter must-haves.

The first step to soft, smooth hydrated skin is to exfoliate.  I love Lush Buffy ($12.95). This classic scrubby, moisturizing body butter slays dryness with ease. It’s packed full of exfoliating ground rice, almonds and beans in a creamy cocoa and shea butter base so you can slough away your dry bits and moisturize at the same time, revealing smooth, bright skin. And… it smells fab!

After we get that dead skin off we need to add moisture to the body. I recently reviewed Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream ($45 & $20) and I am totally smitten! Bum Bum Cream has a surprisingly light, whipped, silky texture. It glides over the skin and absorbs without feeling greasy or oily. The fast-absorbing texture contains just enough mica to add a perfect Brazilian glow and the formula helps your body look and feel its smoothest.  It deeply hydrates my skin within a few days and helped to soothe my dry winter skin. It is also supposed to firm cellulite but I didn’t notice a difference. The scent is a heavenly blend of pistachio and caramel and is highly addictive! Read my full review here.

For a budget option, I suggest CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. This thick, rich cream provides 24-hour hydration and helps restore the protective skin barrier with three essential ceramides (1,3,6-II) plus hyaluronic acid to help retain skin’s natural moisture. The cream utilizes patented MVE® controlled-release technology to help replenish ceramides and deliver long lasting moisturization. For those of you that prefer your skincare to be fragrance-free this will be fit the bill. Also hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and non-irritating. And…they released a new 16 oz. tub with a pump!

On to the hands! I’ve been carrying the Soap and Paper Factory Bourbon Vanilla Petite Hand Cream ($9) in my bag and using it every day. Hand creams are available in 16 scents, I immediately fell in love with the new Bourbon Vanilla scent. Laced with notes of Sandalwood & Amber, Bourbon Vanilla is sumptuous and soothing, balancing the mind body and spirit, and is identical to the Winter Vanilla in the Snow Drop Collection! I love how this is hydrating but non-greasy and absorbs quickly.

Chapped lips are a common problem in the winter with cold, dry air. To keep my lips soft and kissable, I use Herpecin L. This affordable little beauty jewel isn’t only for cold sores my beauties. It also relieves dry, chapped lips winter lips plus makes a great base for those drying matte lipsticks. Herpecin L is safe to use every day to help relieve and protect painful cracking of lips and promotes healing without numbing or drying. It is uniquely formulated with dimethicone for protection, and SPF of 30 to help guard against the sun’s harmful rays and it has a lovely vanilla scent. It’s perfect for winter skiing and snowboarding to prevent windburn and sunburn. Plus, it’s so affordable at under $5 from Walmart you’ll want one to keep in your makeup bag, one in the car and one in your nightstand!
