One of my favorite aspects of being a blogger is discovering new beauty brands. It’s even more exciting knowing I can share my new finds, like Your Best Friend (YBF), with Prime Beauty readers.

Founded in 2008 by Stacey Schieffelin, a Ford model, makeup guru, and successful entrepreneur, YBF is all about “empowering women to live the life they dream using beauty as a tool!” To accomplish this, Schieffelin created Color Care, which utilizes advanced ingredients and technology to create beautiful, blend-able products. Each product in the YBF line is infused with their proprietary Smart Active Complex, a paraben and cruelty-free formula, enriched with natural extracts.

Though I wasn’t familiar with the brand before, I did discover in my research YBF is a #1 HSN top seller around the world. Women from New Zealand and Australia, Canada, the UK, and the USA consider YBF their best friend thanks to its amazing formulation and signature red and silver packaging.

YBF “greater” bronzing powder with kabuki brush – $32.50

YBF Greater Bronzing Powder with kabuki brush

The very first thing I noticed about the “greater” bronzing powder with kabuki brush was the beautiful red packaging with silver accents. It’s so different from anything else in my collection. As a creative, I’m always drawn to packaging. So much so, that I’ve even bought wine and books simply because their packaging, or cover art, caught my eye.

The color isn’t the only thing that makes the YBF packaging unique; it’s also very functional. The kabuki brush cover slides up and down effortlessly, and the bristles are soft, yet dense, which makes blending a breeze. The design of the bronzing powder dial helps keep the powder from going everywhere and allows you to select the exact amount of powder needed to create a bronzed glow.

As first when I saw the powder, I wasn’t sure how well the color would work on my ghost like complexion. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised. The Italian-pressed, silky powder is so finely milled it blended seamlessly into my skin, especially when used with the accompanying Kabuki brush. The result was a nice warm glow, which I kind of wanted to put everywhere. I don’t tan, or self-tan, but every now and again I wish I could be a bit darker, even for only a night.

YBF automatic eye brow pencil in universal taupe – $12.00

 YBF Automatic Eye Brow Pencil

Is it possible for one brow pencil to be suited for 22 shades of brow color? It is if it’s the YBF automatic eye brow pencil in universal taupe! This no sharpening required pencil and spoolie combo is designed to work with all skin tones and hair colors, from blonde to platinum silver.

I found the “oblongish” design of the pencil made filling-in and accentuating my brows quick and easy. I also really liked the fact that the pencil twists up, which means I never have to sharpen it. And the addition of the spoolie is a really great benefit, especially for travel.

While the color looked great on my brows, I found the pencil formulation a little hard to work with. I felt like it stuck to my skin more than on my brows and took some extra spoolie effort to get it to blend out. I think this may due to the waxier feeling nature of the pencil. However, I will say this did seem to increase wear time, which is a trade off I might be willing to except.

YBF girlfriend guide and product cards

 Your Best Friend Info Cards

Another unique feature of YBF is the girlfriend guide and product cards that were enclosed with the bronzing powder and brow pencil.

The guide tells the YBF story, showcases some of their must-have products, and gives tips for how to apply everything from foundation to lipstick. The product cards work similar to the girlfriend guide. They provide detail about each product and give tips on how to use them on different bone structures. I really like when brands provide users with these type of extra goodies.

Overall: If you haven’t checkout YBF, I highly suggest visiting the YBF or HSN websites to pick up some of their products. I highly recommend the “greater” bronzing powder with kabuki brush – $32.50, which was my favorite of the two items I sampled. It’s finely milled powder and universal color will provide every skin tone with that bronzed glow we all crave.
